Abstract

A rechargeable battery jump starting device with a dual battery diode bridge system. The dual battery diode bridge, for example, is configured to protect against a back-charge to a first battery and/or a second battery after a vehicle has been jump charged to prevent damage thereto.

Claims (38)

1. A rechargeable battery jump starting device having a back-charge diode system, the device comprising:

a first battery;

a second battery;

an electrical control switch electrically connected to the first battery and the second battery, the electrical control switch configured to switch between a parallel connection and a series connection for the first and second battery; and

a back-charge diode module connected to the first battery and the second battery, the back-charge diode module configured to protect against a back-charge to the first battery and/or the second battery after a vehicle battery has been jump started,

wherein the back-charge diode module comprises a first channel of diodes accommodating current flow through the first battery and a second channel of diodes accommodating current flow through the second battery, and

wherein the back-charge diode module includes an upper frame member, a lower frame member, and a center frame member located between the upper frame member and the lower frame member, and wherein the first channel of diodes are connected between the upper frame member and the center frame member and the second channel of diodes are connected between the lower frame member and the center frame member.

2. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 1 , wherein the center frame member is connected to a positive battery cable.

3. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 2 , wherein the center frame member is connected to a positive cam lock configured for releasably connecting the positive battery cable to the positive cam lock.

4. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 1 , further comprising a smart switch connected to the first battery and the second battery, the smart switch configured for switching on current flow from the first battery and/or the second battery only upon detecting that a positive battery clamp and a negative battery clamp are correctly connected to correct polarity battery terminals of the vehicle battery being jump started.

5. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 4 , wherein a negative terminal of the first battery is permanently connected to the smart switch.

6. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 5 , wherein a negative terminal of the second battery is selectively connected to the smart switch via the electrical control switch.

7. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 6 , wherein a positive terminal of the second battery is permanently connected to the back-charge diode module.

8. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 7 , wherein a positive terminal of the first battery is selectively connected to the back-charge diode module via the electrical control switch.

9. A rechargeable battery jump starting device having a back-charge diode system, the device comprising:

a first battery;

a second battery;

an electrical control switch electrically connected to the first battery and the second battery, the electrical control switch configured to switch between a parallel connection and a series connection for the first and second batteries;

a back-charge diode module connected to the first battery and the second battery, the back-charge diode module configured to protect against a back-charge to the first battery and/or the second battery after a vehicle battery has been jump started; and

a conductive frame connected to the first battery, the second battery, and the control switch,

wherein the back-charge diode module includes conductive bars that are portions of the conductive frame.

10. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 9 , wherein the back-charge diode module comprises a first channel of diodes accommodating current flow through the first battery, and a second channel of diodes accommodating current flow through the second battery.

11. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 9 , wherein the conductive frame comprises a plurality of conductive frame members.

12. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 10 , wherein the conductive bars of the back-charge diode module include an upper frame member, a lower frame member, and a center frame member located between the upper frame member and lower frame member, wherein the first channel of diodes are connected between the upper frame member and center frame member and the second channel of diodes are connected between the lower frame member and the center frame member.

13. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 12 , wherein the center frame member is connected to a positive battery cable.

14. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 13 , wherein the center frame member is connected to a positive cam lock configured for releasably connecting the positive battery cable to the positive cam lock.

15. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 9 , further comprising a smart switch connected to the first battery and the second battery, the smart switch configured for switching on current flow from the first battery and/or the second battery only upon detecting that a positive battery clamp and a negative battery clamp are correctly connected to correct polarity battery terminals of the vehicle battery being jump started.

16. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 15 , wherein a negative terminal of the first battery is permanently connected to the smart switch.

17. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 16 , wherein the negative terminal of the second battery is selectively connected to the smart switch via the electrical control switch.

18. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 17 , wherein a positive terminal of the second battery is permanently connected to the back-charge diode module.

19. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 18 , wherein a positive terminal of the first battery is selectively connected to the back-charge diode module via the electrical control switch.

20. A rechargeable battery jump starting device having a back-charge diode system, the device comprising:

one or more rechargeable batteries;

a back-charge diode module connected to the one or more rechargeable batteries, the back-charge diode module configured to protect against a back-charge to the one or more rechargeable batteries after a vehicle battery has been jump started; and

a conductive frame connected to the one or more rechargeable batteries,

wherein the back-charge diode module includes one or more conductive bars that are portions of the conductive frame.

21. The rechargeable battery jump starting device according to claim 20 , wherein the conductive frame comprises a plurality of conductive frame members.
