Abstract

Disclosed herein are methods of treating neurological or psychiatric diseases or disorders using a combination of bupropion and dextromethorphan. Related compositions and dosage forms are also described.

Claims (19)

1 . A method of treating major depressive disorder, comprising: administering twice daily, to a human patient experiencing major depressive disorder, a combination of: 1) 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide, or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of dextromethorphan or the dextromethorphan free base, and 2) 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride, or a molar equivalent amount of another salt form of bupropion or the bupropion free base, wherein the human patient is selected for being a male of Asian descent.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination comprises 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein dextromethorphan hydrobromide is in an immediate release formulation.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein bupropion hydrochloride is in an extended-release formulation.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered in a tablet.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising administering one tablet daily to the human patient for three days prior to administering one tablet twice daily to the human patient.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the combination comprises 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein dextromethorphan hydrobromide is in an immediate release formulation.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein bupropion hydrochloride is in an extended-release formulation.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the human patient is selected for being a male of Japanese descent.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the human patient is selected for being a male of Chinese descent.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the human patient is selected for being a male of Korean descent.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the dextromethorphan contributes to the antidepressant properties of the combination comprising 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered twice daily for at least 6 weeks.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered twice daily for at least 6 months.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered twice daily for at least 12 months.

17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is in a tablet further comprising microcrystalline cellulose.

18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the combination is in a tablet further comprising magnesium stearate.

19 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the human patient meets the DSM-5 criteria for major depressive disorder.
