Abstract

A running bike includes a front fork, a rear fork, a handlebar, and a frame extending between and connecting the front fork and the rear fork. The frame has a top tube and a seat tube coupled to the top tube. A seat is adjustably coupled to the seat tube. A footrest is connected to and supported by the frame, a drivetrain receiving region is defined as an area below the top tube and above the footplate, a drivetrain assembly is positioned within the drivetrain receiving region, and a battery mount selectively receives a battery. The battery mount faces the front wheel at a position between the top tube and the footrest. A side panel is coupled to the frame to enclose the drivetrain assembly within the drivetrain receiving region, and has in side view, a plurality of edges positioned between the top tube and the footrest.

Claims (72)

1. A running bike configured to be operated selectively with and without power, the running bike comprising:

a front fork rotatably engaged with a front wheel;

a rear fork rotatably engaged with a rear wheel;

a handlebar coupled to the front fork for steering the running bike;

a frame extending between and connecting the front fork and the rear fork, the frame having a top tube and a seat tube coupled to the top tube;

a seat adjustably coupled to the seat tube, the seat being movable between a plurality of different height settings;

a footrest connected to and supported by the frame;

a drivetrain receiving region defined as an area below the top tube and above the footrest;

a drivetrain assembly positioned within the drivetrain receiving region;

a battery mount configured to selectively receive a battery to power the drivetrain assembly, the battery mount facing the front wheel at a position between the top tube and the footrest; and

a side panel coupled to the frame to enclose the drivetrain assembly within the drivetrain receiving region, the side panel having, in side view, a plurality of edges positioned between the top tube and the footrest.

The running bike of claim 1 , wherein the frame further includes a down tube having a first end connected to the front fork and a second end opposite the first end and positioned adjacent the rear fork, and wherein the top tube is connected to and extends between the down tube and the rear fork.

3. The running bike of claim 1 , wherein the footrest includes at least one angled portion selected from the group consisting of:

an angled rear portion, and

an angled front portion.

4. The running bike of claim 1 , wherein the battery mount is configured to receive the battery in a diagonal direction, downward and rearward.

5. The running bike of claim 1 , wherein the battery mount is positioned between the seat tube and the front wheel.

6. Running bike of claim 1 , wherein the drivetrain assembly includes an electric motor, and wherein at least a portion of the electric motor is positioned rearward of the seat tube.

7. The running bike of claim 1 , further comprising a footrest support connected to a lower portion of the frame, wherein the footrest has a left portion and a right portion, the left and right portions extending outwardly from the lower portion of the frame as viewed from above.

The running bike of claim 7 , wherein the footrest support includes a plate, and wherein the left portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a left edge of the plate and the right portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a right edge of the plate when the footrest is viewed from below.

9. The running bike of claim 8 , wherein the footrest is coupled to the plate of the footrest support with fasteners.

10. A running bike configured to be operated selectively with and without power, the running bike comprising:

a front fork rotatably engaged with a front wheel;

a rear fork rotatably engaged with a rear wheel;

a handlebar coupled to the front fork for steering the running bike;

a frame extending between and connecting the front fork and the rear fork, the frame having a top tube and a seat tube coupled to the top tube;

a seat adjustably coupled to the seat tube, the seat being movable between a plurality of different height settings;

a footrest support connected to a lower portion of the frame, the footrest support having a plate;

a footrest connected to and supported by the frame adjacent the lower portion of the frame by the footrest support, the footrest having a left portion and a right portion that extend outwardly from the lower portion of the frame when viewed from above, the left portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a left edge of the plate and the right portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a right edge of the plate as viewed from below,

a drivetrain receiving region defined as an area below the top tube and above the footrest;

a drivetrain assembly positioned within the drivetrain receiving region, the drivetrain assembly having an electric motor;

a battery mount configured to selectively receive a battery to power the drivetrain assembly; and

a side panel coupled to the frame to enclose the drivetrain assembly within the drivetrain receiving region.

11. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein the footrest is coupled to the plate of the footrest support with fasteners.

12. The running bike of claim 11 , wherein the footrest extends around the left edge of the plate and the right portion of the footrest extends around the right edge of the plate as viewed from below.

13. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein each one of the right portion and the left portion of the footrest includes at least one angled portion selected from the group consisting of:

an angled rear portion, and

an angled front portion.

14. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein the side panel having, in side view, a plurality of edges positioned between the top tube and the footrest.

15. The running bike of claim 14 , wherein the side panel has, in side view, a first portion extending from the seat tube towards the front wheel and a second portion extending from the seat tube towards the rear wheel so the side panel spans the seat tube.

16. The running bike of claim 15 , wherein the side panel is a left side panel, and the running bike further comprises a right side panel that is configured to be coupled to the left side panel.

17. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein the footrest has a front portion that extends, in side view, beyond the footrest support and towards the front wheel.

18. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein the drivetrain assembly includes a first sprocket being driven by the electric motor, wherein at least a portion of the electric motor is positioned rearward of the seat tube.

19. The running bike of claim 18 , further comprising:

an electronic control housing receiving region positioned proximate to the drivetrain receiving region;

an electronic controller positioned within the electronic control housing receiving region;

a throttle sensor coupled to the electronic controller;

a second sprocket connected to the rear wheel;

a chain connected to the first sprocket and the second sprocket,

wherein the electronic controller causes the drivetrain assembly to rotate the first sprocket in response to a user input to the throttle sensor, and

wherein the first sprocket drives the chain which rotates the second sprocket and the rear wheel.

20. The running bike of claim 10 , wherein the battery mount faces the front wheel at a position between the top tube and the footrest.

21. A running bike configured to be operated selectively with and without power, the running bike comprising:

a front fork rotatably engaged with a front wheel;

a rear fork rotatably engaged with a rear wheel;

a handlebar coupled to the front fork for steering the running bike;

a frame extending between and connecting the front fork and the rear fork, the frame having a top tube and a seat tube coupled to the top tube;

a seat adjustably coupled to the seat tube, the seat being movable between a plurality of different height settings;

a footrest connected to and supported by the frame;

a drivetrain receiving region defined as an area below the top tube and above the footrest;

a drivetrain assembly positioned within the drivetrain receiving region;

a battery mount for selectively receiving a battery; and

a side panel coupled to the frame to enclose the drivetrain assembly within the drivetrain receiving region, the side panel having, in side view, a first portion extending from the seat tube towards the front wheel and a second portion extending from the seat tube towards the rear wheel so the side panel spans the seat tube.

22. The running bike of claim 21 , wherein the footrest includes at least one angled portion selected from the group consisting of:

an angled rear portion, and

an angled front portion.

23. The running bike of claim 21 , wherein the battery mount faces the front wheel at a position between the top tube and the footrest, and wherein the battery mount is configured to receive the battery in a diagonal direction, downward and rearward.

24. The running bike of claim 23 , wherein the battery mount is positioned between the seat tube and the front wheel.

25. The running bike of claim 21 , wherein the drivetrain assembly includes an electric motor, and wherein at least a portion of the electric motor is positioned rearward of the seat tube.

26. The running bike of claim 21 , further comprising a footrest support connected to a lower portion of the frame, wherein the footrest has a left portion and a right portion that extend outwardly from the lower portion of the frame as viewed from above.

27. The running bike of claim 26 , wherein the footrest support includes a plate, and wherein the left portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a left edge of the plate and the right portion of the footrest extends outwardly from a right edge of the plate as viewed from below.

28. The running bike of claim 27 , wherein the footrest is coupled to the plate of the footrest support with fasteners.
