Abstract

A golf car canopy extension panel that is connectable to a canopy main panel, wherein the extension panel comprises a first extension longitudinal water channel that is fluidly connectable to a first main longitudinal water channel main panel, and a second extension longitudinal water channel that is fluidly connectable to a second main longitudinal water channel of the main panel, wherein the first and second extension longitudinal water channels each comprise a termination end structured and operable to direct water to exit the respective extension longitudinal water channel at an end of a sidewall of the respective extension longitudinal water channel.

Claims (52)

1. A canopy support system for a lightweight vehicle, said system comprising:

a front canopy strut, the front canopy strut comprising:

a header;

a first leg extending from the header and mountable to at least a first portion of a body of the vehicle; and

a second leg extending from the header and mountable to at least a second portion of a body of the vehicle;

at least one rear canopy strut of the vehicle, wherein at least one of the front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut comprises an accessory attachment channel integrally formed therewith, the integrally formed accessory attachment channel comprising a mouth and a base having a width that is greater than a width of the mouth, thereby defining a pair of opposing angled walls that extend between the mouth and the base; and

a pinch nut structured and operable to be rotated within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel whereby the rotation of the pinch nut within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel causes the pinch nut to bindingly engage with the angled walls and the base within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel of the respective front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut, whereby an accessory can be connected to the pinch nut to mount the accessory to the respective front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the integrally formed accessory attachment channel comprises a dovetailed shaped channel.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the dovetailed shaped channel comprises:

a mouth having mouth width;

a base having a base width, wherein the base width is greater than the mouth width; and

a pair of opposing angled walls extending between the base and the mouth.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the walls form an angle with the base that is less than 90°.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the pinch nut comprises:

a threaded bore;

a base; and

a pair of opposing beveled sides, wherein each of the opposing beveled sides comprises a flat portion and rounded corner portion, wherein the flat portion forms an angle with the base that is substantially equal to the channel walls formed with the channel base.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the pinch nut further comprises:

a top face; and

a slotted boss extending from the top face.

7. The system of claim 3 wherein the dovetailed channel comprises a duct recessed within the base of the dovetail channel.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the duct is a wire duct structured and operable to have wires disposed therein.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the wire duct is disposed off-center of a longitudinal center line of the base.

10. A lightweight vehicle, said vehicle comprising:

a chassis;

a body mounted to the chassis;

a passenger compartment supported by the chassis; and

a canopy system, wherein the canopy system comprises:

a canopy support system that comprises:

a front canopy strut, the front canopy strut comprising:

a header;

a first leg extending from the header and mountable to at least a first portion of a body of the vehicle; and

a second leg extending from the header and mountable to at least a second portion of a body of the vehicle;

at least one rear canopy strut of the vehicle, wherein at least one of the front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut comprises an accessory attachment channel integrally formed therewith, the integrally formed accessory attachment channel comprising a mouth and a base having a width that is greater than a width of the mouth, thereby defining a pair of opposing angled walls that extend between the mouth and the base;

a pinch nut structured and operable to be rotated within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel whereby the rotation of the pinch nut within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel causes the pinch nut to bindingly engage the angled walls and the base within the integrally formed accessory attachment channel of the respective front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut, whereby an accessory can be connected to the pinch nut to mount the accessory to the respective front canopy strut header, the front canopy strut first leg, the front canopy strut second leg, and the at least one rear canopy strut, and

a canopy mountable to the front and rear canopy struts.

11. The vehicle of claim 10 , wherein the integrally formed accessory attachment channel comprises a dovetailed shaped channel.

12. The vehicle of claim 11 wherein the dovetailed shaped channel comprises:

a mouth having mouth width;

a base having a base width, wherein the base width is greater than the mouth width; and

a pair of opposing angled walls extending between the base and the mouth.

13. The vehicle of claim 12 , wherein the walls form an angle with the base that is less than 90°.

14. The vehicle of claim 10 wherein the pinch nut comprises:

a threaded bore;

a base; and

a pair of opposing beveled sides, wherein each of the opposing beveled sides comprises a flat portion and rounded corner portion, wherein the flat portion forms an angle with the base that is substantially equal to the channel walls formed with the channel base.

15. The vehicle of claim 14 , wherein the pinch nut further comprises:

a top face; and

a slotted boss extending from the top face.

16. The vehicle of claim 12 wherein the dovetailed channel comprises a duct recessed within the base of the dovetail channel.

17. The vehicle of claim 16 , wherein the duct is a wire duct structured and operable to have wires disposed therein.

18. The vehicle of claim 17 , wherein the wire duct is disposed off-center of a longitudinal center line of the base.
