Abstract

The invention relates to pigment dispersions for finished cosmetic and personal care compositions, the pigment dispersions comprising pigment dispersed in certain citronellol-based polyether polymers and their derivatives, and methods of making and using the same.

Claims (25)

1 . A pigment dispersion comprising a pigment dispersed in a grinding vehicle and/or carrier, wherein the grinding vehicle and/or carrier comprises a compound according to Formula I below:

wherein R 1 is CH 2 CH 2 CH(CH 3 )CH 2 CH 2 , R 2 is H, C 1-20 alkyl (e.g., C 1-3 alkyl), or —C(O)—C 1-20 alkyl (e.g., —C(O)—C 1-3 alkyl); and wherein n is an integer between 0 and 20.

2 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, R 2 is H.

3 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, R 2 is C 1-20 alkyl (e.g., lower alkyl (e.g., C 1-6 ), or C 1-12 ).

4 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, R 2 is —C(O)—C 1-20 alkyl (e.g., —C(O)—C 1-6 alkyl).

5 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, n is 0 to 10 (e.g., 1 to 9, or 2 to 8, or 1 to 7, or 2 to 6, or 1 to 5, or 2 to 4).

6 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, n is 1 to 7 (e.g., 1 to 4, or 2 to 5, or 3 to 6, or 4 to 7, or 2 to 6).

7 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein in the compound of Formula I, the terminal group

is

8 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the Compound of Formula I is:

where n: 0-20 (e.g., 0-10, 1-9, 1-7, 1-4, 1-3, 0-5, 0-4, 0-3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5).

9 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion is a non-aqueous dispersion.

10 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the grinding vehicle and/or carrier further comprises one or more natural or naturally derived oils, e.g., vegetable oils (e.g., castor oil).

11 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the grinding vehicle and/or carrier consists of the one or more Compounds of Formula I.

12 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more Compounds of Formula I act as a grinding vehicle, as a carrier, or as a grinding vehicle and as a carrier.

13 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the pigment is selected from iron oxide (e.g., red iron oxide, yellow iron oxide, black iron oxide or a mixture thereof), titanium dioxide, ultramarines, mica, or any combination thereof.

14 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the pigments are untreated and/or uncoated, and optionally wherein the pigments are cosmetic-grade.

15 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion further comprises a dispersant.

16 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion does not comprise any silicone polymer.

17 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion consists essentially of the pigment or pigments, the compound or compounds of Formula I, and optionally the dispersant.

18 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion comprises 40% or more of the pigment or pigments, by weight of the dispersion, e.g., 50% or more, 60% or more, or 70% or more, or 80% or more, or 90% or more, or 95% or more.

19 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion comprises 50% or less of the compound or compounds of Formula I, by weight of the dispersion, e.g., 40% or less, or 30% or less, or 20% or less, or 10% or less, or 5% or less.

20 . The dispersion according to claim 1 , wherein the dispersion comprises not more than 25% by weight of any dispersant(s) or other components (other than the pigment(s) and the compound(s) of Formula I), by weight of the dispersion, e.g., not more than 20%, or not more than 15%, or not more than 10%, or not more than 5%, or not more than 4%, or not more than 3%, or not more than 2%, or not more than 1%.

21 . A cosmetic or personal care compositions comprising a dispersion according to claim 1 .

22 . The cosmetic or personal care composition according to claim 21 , wherein the composition has a natural origin index (NOI) of from 0.5 to 1.0, e.g., 0.6 to 1.0, or 0.7 to 1.0, or 0.8 to 1.0, or 0.9 to 1.0.
