Abstract

Provided method and system allow dynamic rendering of a reflexive questionnaire based on a modifiable spreadsheet for users with little to no programming experience and knowledge. The method comprises receiving a modifiable spreadsheet with multiple rows, each row comprising rendering instructions for a reflexive questionnaire from a first computer, such as a data type cell, statement cell, logic cell, and a field identifier; rendering a graphical user interface, on a second computer, comprising a label and an input element corresponding to the rendering instructions of a first row of the spreadsheet; receiving an input from the second computer; evaluating the input against the logic cell of the spreadsheet; in response to the input complying with the logic cell of the spreadsheet, dynamically rendering a second label and a second input element to be displayed on the graphical user interface based on the logic of the first row.

Claims (35)

1. A method comprising:

presenting, by a server, a first user interface to a first client device, wherein the first user interface is configured to identify a spreadsheet which contains a logic statement field that holds a plurality of logic statements, wherein each logic statement comprises a Boolean or conditional string, check out the spreadsheet such that it cannot be modified by a second client device accessing the spreadsheet through a second user interface until the server receives a check-in input, and receive a request from the first client device to modify at least one field in the spreadsheet;

populating, by the server, the spreadsheet with the plurality of logic statements modified according to the request;

executing, by the server, the plurality of logic statements from the spreadsheet;

receiving, by the server, the check-in input;

checking in the spreadsheet, such that it can be modified by the second client device; and

presenting, by the server, a third user interface to a third client device, wherein the third user interface contains a reflexive questionnaire with a set of questions generated based on the plurality of logic statements.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the spreadsheet comprises a plurality of rows each configured to receive alphanumerical strings as input.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein each of the plurality of rows is configured to contain only text.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein each of the rows includes a key, wherein a question of the reflexive questionnaire is generated from a first row of the plurality of rows responsive to a second row of the plurality of rows containing the key.

5. The method of claim 4 , comprising:

generating, by the server, the question of the first row responsive to determining a logic state of the second row is satisfied.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein each of the rows includes a help statement that is presentable in association with the text statement of that respective row when the help statement is requested.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the second user interface to the second client device comprises presenting, by the server, the second user interface through executable code comprising markup language code.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the spreadsheet includes a parent worksheet and a child worksheet, wherein the parent worksheet includes at least a first row, and wherein the child worksheet includes a second row inheriting at least one of a property, an attribute, or a feature of the first row.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein presenting the second user interface comprises presenting the second user interface at a browser of the second client device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first user interface is also configured to create a spreadsheet which contains a logic statement field.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the spreadsheet contains a data type field for a data type identifier.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the reflexive questionnaire includes at least one of (a) a first text string based on a text statement of a first row and a first user input field based on a data type identifier of the first row, or (b) a second text string based on a text statement of a second row and a second user input field based on a data type identifier of the second row.

13. A system comprising:

a server configured to:

present a first user interface to a first client device, wherein the first user interface is configured to identify a spreadsheet which contains a logic statement field that holds a plurality of logic statements, wherein each logic statement comprises a Boolean or conditional string, check out the spreadsheet such that it cannot be modified by a second client device accessing the spreadsheet through a second user interface until the server receives a check-in input, and receive a request from the first client device to modify at least one field in the spreadsheet,

populate the spreadsheet with the plurality of logic statements modified according to the request;

execute the plurality of logic statements from the spreadsheet;

receive, by the server, the check-in input;

check in the spreadsheet, such that it can be modified by the second client device; and

present a third user interface to a third client device, wherein the third user interface contains a reflexive questionnaire with a set of questions generated based on the plurality of logic statements.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the spreadsheet comprises a plurality of rows each configured to receive alphanumerical strings as input.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein each of the rows includes a key, wherein a question of the reflexive questionnaire is generated from a first row of the plurality of rows responsive to a second row of the plurality of rows containing the key.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the server:

generates the question of the first row responsive to determining a logic state of the second row is satisfied.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein the server presents the second user interface to the second client device through executable code comprising markup language code.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the spreadsheet includes a parent worksheet and a child worksheet, wherein the parent worksheet includes at least a first row, and wherein the child worksheet includes a second row inheriting at least one of a property, an attribute, or a feature of the first row.

19. The system of claim 13 , wherein the server presents the second user interface by presenting the second user interface at a browser of the second client device.

20. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first user interface is also configured to create a spreadsheet which contains a logic statement field.
