Abstract

A seat made of drop stitch material has a back panel, a bottom panel, and a support panel, where the back and bottom panels are adjustably and detachably connected to each other at a substantially orthogonal orientation, and the support portion tilts or reclines the seat into a recumbent position which is advantageous for paddling while sitting on the upper surface of a watercraft.

Claims (41)

1. A seat for use with a watercraft comprising:

an inflatable drop stitch bottom panel comprising a planar upper surface and a lower surface;

an inflatable drop stitch back panel comprising a front surface and a peripheral sidewall; and

a support panel comprising a planar upper surface;

wherein the support panel comprises a chamber in fluid communication with a chamber of the bottom panel;

wherein the planar upper surface of the support panel is affixed to a forward portion of the lower surface of the bottom panel;

wherein the planar upper surface of the support panel is substantially parallel to the planar upper surface of the bottom panel; and

wherein the peripheral sidewall of the back panel is pivotally connected to the upper surface of the bottom panel.

2. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the pivotal connection comprises a track and rail, and wherein the track is adapted to slidably receive the rail.

3. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the pivotal connection comprises a flexible material.

4. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the pivotal connection is detachable.

5. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the pivotal connection is permanent.

6. The seat of claim 1 , further comprising a pair of straps interconnected to the bottom panel and adapted to detachably interconnect to a corresponding pair of coupling devices configured to mount on an upper surface of the watercraft.

7. The seat of claim 2 , further comprising a pair of straps interconnected to the back panel and the bottom panel, wherein the straps are adapted to maintain an angular relationship between the back panel and bottom panel.

8. The seat of claim 7 , wherein the straps are removably interconnected to the back panel or the bottom panel.

9. The seat of claim 6 , wherein the straps include detachable fasteners disposed on end portions thereof.

10. The seat of claim 6 , wherein the straps are adjustable in length to allow forward or rearward positioning of the seat.

11. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the fluid communication comprises at least one passageway through the lower surface of the bottom panel and the planar upper surface of the support panel and adapted to allow simultaneous inflation of the bottom panel and support panel.

12. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the support panel is adapted to maintain the bottom panel at an angle of recline of between 1 and 20 degrees.

13. The seat of claim 1 , wherein the bottom panel, back panel, and support panel each further comprise an inflation valve.

14. A seat for use with a watercraft comprising:

an inflatable drop stitch bottom panel comprising an upper surface and a planar lower surface;

an inflatable drop stitch back panel comprising a front surface and a peripheral sidewall; and

an inflatable drop stitch support panel comprising a planar upper surface affixed to a forward portion of the planar lower surface of the bottom panel;

at least one fluid passageway through the lower surface of the bottom panel and the upper surface of the support panel; and

a pair of straps interconnected to the back panel and the bottom panel;

wherein the straps are adapted to maintain an angular relationship between the back panel and bottom panel;

wherein the planar upper surface of the support panel is substantially parallel to the planar lower surface of the bottom panel; and

wherein the peripheral sidewall of the back panel is pivotally connected to the upper surface of the bottom panel.

15. The seat of claim 14 , wherein the pivotal connection comprises a track and rail, and wherein the track is adapted to slidably receive the rail.

16. The seat of claim 14 , wherein the pivotal connection comprises a flexible material.

17. The seat of claim 14 , wherein the pivotal connection is detachable.

18. The seat of claim 14 , further comprising a pair of straps interconnected to the bottom panel and adapted to detachably interconnect to a corresponding pair of coupling devices configured to mount on an upper surface of the watercraft.

19. A seat for use with a watercraft comprising:

an inflatable drop stitch bottom panel comprising a planar upper surface and a planar lower surface;

an inflatable drop stitch back panel comprising a peripheral sidewall; and

a support panel comprising a planar upper surface;

wherein the support panel comprises a chamber in fluid communication with a chamber of the bottom panel;

wherein the planar upper surface of the support panel is affixed to the planar lower surface of the bottom panel;

wherein the planar upper surface of the support panel is substantially parallel to the planar upper surface of the bottom panel; and

wherein the peripheral sidewall of the back panel is pivotally connected to the bottom panel.
