Abstract

A system, method, and non-transitory computer-readable information recording medium displays information to a user. Market data having a first portion and a second portion is displayed on a display unit of a trading device. A user focus area is detected, at the trading device. The user focus area is associated with one of the first and second portions of the market data. A first priority is assigned to the one of the first and second portions of the market data and a second priority is assigned to another one of the first and second portions of the market data. The first priority is higher than the second priority. The market data in the first and second portions is updated as a function of the first and second priorities, respectively.

Claims (39)

1. A method including:

detecting, by a trading device including (i) a display unit, (ii) a tracking mechanism including a sensor, (iii) a trading application, and (iv) a gaze control application, by the gaze control application using the sensor of the tracking mechanism, a user focus area of the display unit based on a field of foveal vision for a user, wherein the user focus area is associated with a first portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

determining, by the trading device, a second area of the display unit that includes portions of the display unit that do not include the user focus area, wherein the second area is associated with a second portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

assigning, by the trading device, priorities based on the user focus area, wherein a first priority is associated with the first portion of the market data and a second priority is assigned to the second portion of the market data, wherein the first priority is higher than the second priority;

updating, by the trading device, the first portion of the market data according to a first rate prior to being displayed in the user focus area, wherein the first rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned first priority;

updating, by the trading device, the second portion of the market data according to a second rate prior to being displayed, wherein the second rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned second priority, wherein the first rate is faster than the second rate; and

displaying, by the trading device, the market data in the first portion and the market data in the second portion according to their respective modified rates of updating.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tracking mechanism includes at least one of a facial recognition system, an acoustic position system, an electromagnetic interference sensing suite, a distance sensor, and an imaging sensor.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the display unit includes a plurality of display devices, wherein the user focus area and the second area are displayed on different ones of the display devices.

4. The method of claim 1 , further including highlighting, by the trading device, the user focus area on the display unit.

5. The method of claim 1 , further including providing, by the trading device, an update indication for the second area, wherein the update indication is provided in response to a change in the second portion of the market data.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the change in the second portion of the market data exceeds a predetermined threshold.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein second area includes a plurality of sub-portion areas arranged on one or more display devices of the display unit, the method further including:

assigning, by the trading device, a priority to each sub-portion area based on a distance from the user focus area.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored therein that when executed by a processor of a trading device, causes the processor to:

detect, by the trading device including (i) a display unit, (ii) a tracking mechanism including a sensor, (iii) a trading application, and (iv) a gaze control application, by the gaze control application using the sensor of the tracking mechanism, a user focus area of the display unit based on a field of foveal vision for a user, wherein the user focus area is associated with a first portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

determine, by the trading device, a second area of the display unit that includes portions of the display unit that do not include the user focus area, wherein the second area is associated with a second portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

assign, by the trading device, priorities based on the user focus area, wherein a first priority is associated with the first portion of the market data and a second priority is assigned to the second portion of the market data, wherein the first priority is higher than the second priority;

update, by the trading device, the first portion of the market data according to a first rate prior to being displayed in the user focus area, wherein the first rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned first priority;

update, by the trading device, the second portion of the market data according to a second rate prior to being displayed, wherein the second rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned second priority, wherein the first rate is faster than the second rate; and

display, by the trading device, the market data in the first portion and the market data in the second portion according to their respective modified rates of updating.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein the display unit includes a plurality of display devices, wherein the user focus area and the second area are displayed on different ones of the display devices.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , further including instructions that cause the processor to provide, by the trading device, an update indication for the second area, wherein the update indication is provided in response to a change in the second portion of the market data.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the change in the second portion of the market data exceeds a predetermined threshold.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 8 , wherein second area includes a plurality of sub-portion areas arranged on one or more display devices of the display unit, further including instructions that cause the processor to:

assign a priority to each sub-portion area based on a distance from the user focus area.

13. A system including:

a trading device including (i) a display unit, (ii) a tracking mechanism including a sensor, a trading application, and (iv) a gaze control application, wherein the trading device is configured to execute instructions to:

detect, by the gaze control application using the sensor of the tracking mechanism, a user focus area of the display unit based on a field of foveal vision for a user, wherein the user focus area is associated with a first portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

determine a second area of the display unit that includes portions of the display unit that do not include the user focus area, wherein the second area is associated with a second portion of market data displayed by the trading application with the display unit of the trading device;

assign priorities based on the user focus area, wherein a first priority is associated with the first portion of the market data and a second priority is assigned to the second portion of the market data, wherein the first priority is higher than the second priority;

update the first portion of the market data according to a first rate prior to being displayed in the user focus area, wherein the first rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned first priority;

update the second portion of the market data according to a second rate prior to being displayed, wherein the second rate of updating is modified by the trading application based on the assigned second priority, wherein the first rate is faster than the second rate; and

display the market data in the first portion and the market data in the second portion according to their respective modified rates of updating.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the display unit includes a plurality of display devices, wherein the user focus area and the second area are displayed on different ones of the display devices.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the trading device is further configured to provide an update indication for the second area, wherein the update indication is provided in response to a change in the second portion of the market data.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the change in the second portion of the market data exceeds a predetermined threshold.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein second area includes a plurality of sub-portion areas arranged on one or more display devices of the display unit, wherein the trading device is further configured to:

assign a priority to each sub-portion area is based on a distance from the user focus area.
