Abstract

Methods and systems are disclosed for enabling the creation of substitute low-value token creation, comprising providing software content to a content delivery network wherein, when transmitted to a user browser, the software content is configured to enable the user browser to create a substitute low-value token if a token service is unavailable, wherein the content delivery network is configured to provide the software content to at least one user browser, and receiving the substitute low-value token from a merchant system, the substitute low-value token having been generated by the user browser in response to the user browser being unable to obtain a low-value token from the token service.

21 . A method for performing a secure electronic transaction using a substitute low-value token, the method comprising:

receiving, by an electronic transaction processor, an authorization request including the substitute low-value token from a merchant system, the substitute low-value token having been generated by a user browser based on a token service being unavailable and transmitted from the user browser to the merchant system; and

providing, by the electronic transaction processor, an authorization response to the merchant system, based on the authorization request including the substitute low-value token.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the electronic transaction processor, software content to a content delivery network, the software content comprising computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the user browser, cause the user browser to generate the substitute low-value token based on determining that the token service is unavailable.

23 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

converting, by the electronic transaction processor, the substitute low-value token to a primary token; and

transmitting, by the electronic transaction processor, the primary token to the merchant system.

24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the primary token is reusable for subsequent electronic transactions by the merchant system.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the software content comprises a public key to encrypt cardholder data in the substitute low-value token.

26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the substitute low-value token comprises encrypted cardholder data.

27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the software content is transmitted to the user browser in response to the user browser being unable to access the token service.

28 . An electronic transaction processor for performing a secure electronic transaction using a substitute low-value token, the electronic transaction processor comprising:

a memory configured to store instructions; and

a processor configured to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:

receiving an authorization request including the substitute low-value token from a merchant system, the substitute low-value token having been generated by a user browser based on a token service being unavailable and transmitted from the user browser to the merchant system; and

providing an authorization response to the merchant system, based on the authorization request including the substitute low-value token.

29 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

transmitting software content to a content delivery network, the software content comprising computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the user browser, cause the user browser to generate the substitute low-value token based on determining that the token service is unavailable.

30 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

converting the substitute low-value token to a primary token; and

transmitting the primary token to the merchant system.

31 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 30 , wherein the primary token is reusable for subsequent electronic transactions by the merchant system.

32 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 28 , wherein the software content comprises a public key to encrypt cardholder data in the substitute low-value token.

33 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 28 , wherein the substitute low-value token comprises encrypted cardholder data.

34 . The electronic transaction processor of claim 28 , wherein the software content is transmitted to the user browser in response to the user browser being unable to access the token service.

35 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor for performing a secure electronic transaction using a substitute low-value token, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving an authorization request including the substitute low-value token from a merchant system, the substitute low-value token having been generated by a user browser based on a token service being unavailable and transmitted from the user browser to the merchant system; and

providing an authorization response to the merchant system, based on the authorization request including the substitute low-value token.

36 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

transmitting software content to a content delivery network, the software content comprising computer-executable instructions which, when executed by the user browser, cause the user browser to generate the substitute low-value token based on determining that the token service is unavailable.

37 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

converting the substitute low-value token to a primary token; and

transmitting the primary token to the merchant system.

38 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 37 , wherein the primary token is reusable for subsequent electronic transactions by the merchant system.

39 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the software content comprises a public key to encrypt cardholder data in the substitute low-value token.

40 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the substitute low-value token comprises encrypted cardholder data.
