Abstract

Techniques are provided for utilizing positioning reference signals (PRS) in full duplex scenarios. An example method for wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a positioning reference signal in a time slot, wherein the positioning reference signal spans a first frequency bandwidth, transmitting a signal in a second frequency bandwidth during the time slot, wherein the second frequency bandwidth includes frequencies within the first frequency bandwidth, and processing the positioning reference signal received in the first frequency bandwidth excluding the frequencies in the second frequency bandwidth.

Claims (35)

1. A method for wireless communication by a base station, comprising:

configuring a first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation, wherein the first positioning frequency layer is defined by a first subcarrier spacing (SCS), a first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a first bandwidth;

configuring a second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation, wherein the second positioning frequency layer is defined by a second subcarrier spacing (SCS), a second cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a second bandwidth that are respectively different from the first subcarrier spacing (SCS), the first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and the first bandwidth;

providing the first positioning frequency layer to a first mobile device; and

providing the second positioning frequency layer to a second mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein configuring the first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation comprises configuring a slot class field to indicate full duplex operation.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein configuring the second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation comprises configuring a slot class field to indicate half duplex operation.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein providing the first positioning frequency layer to the first mobile device and providing the second positioning frequency layer to the second mobile device includes transmitting one or more radio resource control signals to the first mobile device and the second mobile device.

5. An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:

a memory;

at least one transceiver;

at least one processor communicatively coupled to the at least one transceiver and the memory, and configured to:

configure a first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation, wherein the first positioning frequency layer is defined by a first subcarrier spacing (SCS), a first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a first bandwidth;

configure a second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation, wherein the second positioning frequency layer is defined by a second subcarrier spacing (SCS), a second cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a second bandwidth that are respectively different from the first subcarrier spacing (SCS), the first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and the first bandwidth;

provide the first positioning frequency layer to a first mobile device; and

provide the second positioning frequency layer to a second mobile device.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the at least one processor is configured to configure a slot class field to indicate full duplex operation.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the at least one processor is configured to configure a slot class field to indicate half duplex operation.

8. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the at least one transceiver is configured to transmit one or more radio resource control signals to the first mobile device and the second mobile device.

9. An apparatus for wireless communication by a base station, comprising:

means for configuring a first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation, wherein the first positioning frequency layer is defined by a first subcarrier spacing (SCS), a first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a first bandwidth;

means for configuring a second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation, wherein the second positioning frequency layer is defined by a second subcarrier spacing (SCS), a second cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a second bandwidth that are respectively different from the first subcarrier spacing (SCS), the first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and the first bandwidth;

means for providing the first positioning frequency layer to a first mobile device; and

means for providing the second positioning frequency layer to a second mobile device.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the means for configuring the first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation comprises means for configuring a slot class field to indicate full duplex operation.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the means for configuring the second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation comprises means for configuring a slot class field to indicate half duplex operation.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the means for providing the first positioning frequency layer to the first mobile device and the means for providing the second positioning frequency layer to the second mobile device includes means for transmitting one or more radio resource control signals to the first mobile device and the second mobile device.

13. A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium comprising processor-readable instructions configured to cause one or more processors in a user equipment (UE) to communicate wirelessly, comprising:

code for configuring a first positioning frequency layer for full duplex operation, wherein the first positioning frequency layer is defined by a first subcarrier spacing (SCS), a first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a first bandwidth;

code for configuring a second positioning frequency layer for half duplex operation, wherein the second positioning frequency layer is defined by a second subcarrier spacing (SCS), a second cyclic prefix (CP) type, and a second bandwidth that are respectively different from the first subcarrier spacing (SCS), the first cyclic prefix (CP) type, and the first bandwidth;

code for providing the first positioning frequency layer to a first mobile device; and
