Abstract

A stent with varying porosity is described. The stent can be comprised of multiple stents attached together. A braided stent may have selected regions of increased thickness. The stent may be comprised of wires that are welded together at their ends in order to minimize vessel trauma. The stent may comprise a helically wound radiopaque wire wound through the stent.

Claims (38)

1 . A stent, comprising:

a first wire having a first end region;

a second wire having a second end region;

a binding element comprising a coil, sleeve, or coupling tube that is disposed around the first end region of the first wire and the second end region of the second wire;

a first enlarged region on the first end region of the first wire;

a second enlarged region on the second end region of the second wire;

a third enlarged region located on the second wire and positioned near the first enlarged region; and,

a fourth enlarged region located on the first wire and positioned near the second enlarged region.

2 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein the binding element is located between the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region.

3 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are spaced apart from the binding element so as to allow a range of sliding motion between the first wire and the second wire.

4 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein the binding element is sized such that the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are too large to pass through the binding element.

5 . The stent of claim 4 , wherein the binding element is further connected via adhesive or welding.

6 . The stent of claim 4 , wherein the first enlarged region, the second enlarged region, the third enlarged region, and the fourth enlarged region are spaced apart from the binding element so as to allow a range of sliding motion between the first wire and the second wire.

7 . The stent of claim 6 , wherein any of the first enlarged region, the second enlarged region, the third enlarged region are sphere shaped or bulb shaped.

8 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein any of the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are sphere shaped or bulb shaped.

9 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein the binding element is further connected via adhesive or welding.

10 . The stent of claim 1 , wherein the first wire forms a first stent segment with a first porosity and the second wire forms a second stent segment having a second porosity.

11 . A stent, comprising:

a first wire having a first region;

a second wire having a second region;

a binding element comprising a coil, sleeve, or coupling tube that is disposed around the first region of the first wire and the second region of the second wire;

a first enlarged region on the first region of the first wire; and,

a second enlarged region on the second region of the second wire;

a third enlarged region located on the second wire and positioned near the first enlarged region; and

a fourth enlarged region located on the first wire and positioned near the second enlarged region.

12 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the binding element is located between the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region.

13 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are spaced apart from the binding element so as to allow a range of sliding motion between the first wire and the second wire.

14 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the binding element is sized such that the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are too large to pass through the binding element.

15 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein any of the first enlarged region and the second enlarged region are sphere shaped or bulb shaped.

16 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the first enlarged region, the second enlarged region, the third enlarged region, and the fourth enlarged region are spaced apart from the binding element so as to allow a range of sliding motion between the first wire and the second wire.

17 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the first region and the second region longitudinally overlap each other in a parallel arrangement.

18 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the binding element is further connected via adhesive or welding.

19 . The stent of claim 11 , wherein the first wire forms a first stent segment with a first porosity and the second wire forms a second stent segment having a second porosity.

20 . A stent, comprising:

a first wire having a first end region;

a second wire having a second end region;

a means for binding two wires that is disposed around the first end region of the first wire and the second end region of the second wire; and,

a means for preventing the first end region and the second end region from pulling through the means for binding two wires, where the first wire and the second wire each have two enlarged regions on each side of the means for binding two wires.
