Abstract

The present invention comprises a system and method for receiving at an application server a request for a software application from a mobile device wherein the request includes an indicator that allows the application server to tell whether the mobile device currently has a software application interpreter installed, sending the software application interpreter to a cellular wireless network for provisioning to the mobile device if the indicator shows that the mobile device does not have the application interpreter installed, and sending the software application to a cellular wireless network for provisioning to the mobile device. The invention further comprises a system and method for updating the software application in a way that seems automatic to a user.

Claims (34)

1. A computer system, comprising:

at least one memory storing instructions; and

at least one hardware processor executing the instructions to perform operations, comprising:

receiving a request to access a third-party service from a device, wherein the request comprises a first application version identifier;

comparing the first application version identifier to a second application version identifier;

causing transmission of an instance of an updated application with a new identifier configured to provide access to the third-party service to the device;

receiving a new access request from the device to access the third-party service, the new access request comprising the new identifier;

providing the device access to the third-party service based on the new identifier.

2. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the access request is received from the device and the first application version identifier is associated with the device.

3. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein providing access to the third-party service comprises allowing the device to communicate with a content provider system.

4. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the new identifier is further configured to provide access to the third-party service without a username and password.

5. The computer system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising providing the device access to the third-party service based on the new identifier.

6. The computer system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising associating, in a database, the new identifier with the updated application.

7. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the access request is received during a first session and the update request is received during a second session.

8. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the update request is received during a first session and the instance is caused to be transmitted during a second session.

9. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the updated application is written in an extensible markup language that is configured to be interpreted by a software application interpreter on the device.

10. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the comparison further comprises:

determining a mismatch between the first application version identifier and the a second application version identifier, wherein the second application version identifier is associated with the updated application.

11. The computer system of claim 10 , wherein determining the mismatch further comprises:

determining that an application on the device is not approved for distribution.

12. The computer system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

transmitting, to the device, a software application interpreter that is configured to translate instructions specific to a type of the device and the instance of the updated application when the instance of the updated application executes on the device.

13. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the updated application is generic to a plurality of device types.

14. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the updated software application is agnostic to a mobile operating system.

15. The computer system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

tagging the instance of the updated application with the new identifier configured to provide access to the third-party service.

16. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a request to access a third-party service from a device, wherein the request comprises a first application version identifier;

comparing the first application version identifier to a second application version identifier;

causing transmission of an instance of an updated application with a new identifier configured to provide access to the third-party service to the device;

receiving a new access request from the device to access the third-party service, the new access request comprising the new identifier;

providing the device access to the third-party service based on the new identifier.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein providing access to the third-party service comprises allowing the device to communicate with a content provider system.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the new identifier is further configured to provide access to the third-party service without a username and password.
