Abstract

Aspects relate to providing radio frequency components responsive to magnetic resonance signals. According to some aspects, a radio frequency component comprises at least one coil having a conductor arranged in a plurality of turns oriented about a region of interest to respond to corresponding magnetic resonant signal components. According to some aspects, the radio frequency component comprises a plurality of coils oriented to respond to corresponding magnetic resonant signal components. According to some aspects, an optimization is used to determine a configuration for at least one radio frequency coil.

Claims (26)

1. A radio frequency component configured for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the radio frequency component comprising:

one or more coils configured to generate magnetic field components, the one or more coils including a first conductor arranged in a plurality of turns having non-uniform spacing;

wherein the one or more coils are tuned to resonate at a frequency corresponding to a B 0 field having a field strength of less than or equal to 0.2 T; and

wherein the one or more coils comprises a first coil configured to generate the magnetic field components, and a second coil configured to be responsive to magnetic resonance signal components.

2. A radio frequency component configured for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the radio frequency component comprising:

one or more coils configured to generate magnetic field components, the one or more coils including a first conductor arranged in a plurality of turns having non-uniform spacing;

wherein the one or more coils are tuned to resonate at a frequency corresponding to a B 0 field having a field strength of less than or equal to 0.2 T; and

wherein the one or more coils comprises a first coil configured to generate the magnetic field components, and wherein the first conductor is part of the first coil.

3. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein the first coil and the second coil are tuned to resonate at the frequency corresponding to the B 0 field, and wherein the field strength is less than or equal to 0.1 T and greater than or equal to 50 mT.

4. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of turns includes 5 turns.

5. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein a configuration of the first coil is determined by performing at least one optimization that determines a value for at least one parameter of a model of the radio frequency component.

6. The radio frequency component of claim 5 , wherein the nonuniform spacing is determined based, at least in part, on the at least one optimization.

7. The radio frequency component of claim 5 , wherein a number of turns in the plurality of turns is determined based, at least in part, on performing the at least one optimization using the model of the radio frequency component.

8. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein the first coil of the one or more coils is tuned to resonate at a target frequency, and wherein a number of turns in the plurality of turns are limited so that a self-resonance of the first conductor is at a frequency at least twice the target frequency.

9. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein the first conductor is arranged in a three-dimensional geometry about a region of interest in accordance with a coil configuration of the first conductor in the three-dimensional geometry.

10. The radio frequency component of claim 9 , wherein the magnetic field components, generated by the first coil of the one or more coils, cause a magnetic resonance response from the region of interest.

11. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of turns comprises a conductive path provided 360° or substantially 360° about a reference axis.

12. The radio frequency component of claim 1 , wherein the first conductor has a length of at least 1 meter.

13. An apparatus, comprising:

a radio frequency component configured for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the radio frequency component comprising one or more coils configured to generate magnetic field components, the one or more coils including a first conductor arranged in a plurality of turns having non-uniform spacing; and

a support structure configured to accommodate a portion of a body of a patient, the support structure having grooves configured to accommodate the first conductor.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the first coil is configured to generate magnetic field components to cause a magnetic resonance response from a region of interest.

15. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the one or more coils comprises a first coil and a second coil, and wherein a configuration of the first coil is determined by performing at least one optimization that determines a value for at least one parameter of a model of the radio frequency component.

16. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the radio frequency component is a head coil, and wherein the support structure comprises a helmet formed to accommodate a human head.

17. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the one or more coils comprises a first coil configured to generate the magnetic field components, and a second coil configured to be responsive to magnetic resonance signal components, and wherein the first conductor is part of the first coil.

18. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the one or more coils are tuned to resonate at a frequency corresponding to a B 0 field having a field strength of less than or equal to 0.2 T.
