Abstract

Techniques for acknowledging communications from multiple devices are described herein. For example, a device may broadcast a group acknowledgement message indicating that communications from multiple devices have been received by the device. Each acknowledgement in the group acknowledgement message may include a device identifier for a device that sent a communication (e.g., a Medium Access Control (MAC) address of the device, a hash of the MAC address of the device, etc.) and a communication identifier for the communication (e.g., a sequence number of the communication, a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) code for the communication, etc.).

Claims (70)

1 . A method of acknowledging multiple communications, the method comprising:

wirelessly receiving, by a first node, a group acknowledgement message from a second node, the group acknowledgement message including a type field to indicate a type of one or more acknowledgments in a list, a number field to indicate a number of the one or more acknowledgements in the list, and a list field that includes the one or more acknowledgements in the list, the list field including:

a first acknowledgement including:

a first communication identifier for a first communication; and

a first device identifier for the first node; and

a second acknowledgement including:

a second communication identifier for a second communication received by the second node from a third node; and

a second device identifier for the third node; and

grouping the one or more acknowledgments in the group acknowledgment message by type, the type indicating how the one or more acknowledgments in the group acknowledgment message are represented.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the first communication identifier for the first communication comprises at least one of a sequence number of the first communication or a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) code for the first communication, and

the first device identifier for the first node comprises at least one of a Medium Access Control (MAC) address of the first node or a hash of the MAC address of the first node.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the second communication identifier for the second communication comprises at least one of a sequence number of the second communication or a CRC code for the second communication, and

the second device identifier for the second node comprising at least one of a MAC address of the second node or a hash of the MAC address of the second node.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the first node, that the first communication was received by the second node based at least in part on the group acknowledgement message.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the group acknowledgement message indicates a first signal strength of receiving the first communication and a second signal strength of receiving the second communication.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the type field comprises a first type field, the type comprises a first type, and the one or more acknowledgements in the list comprises a first list;

the first type indicating that the first acknowledgement and the second acknowledgement are formatted in a first format;

the group acknowledgement message further includes a second type field indicating that a second type of acknowledgments are included in a second list field; and

the second type indicating that the one or more acknowledgements in the second list field are formatted in a second format that is different than the first format.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the second format is longer than the first format.

8 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing computer-readable instructions that, when executed, instruct a processing unit of a device to perform operations comprising:

wirelessly receiving, by a first node, a group acknowledgement message from a second node, the group acknowledgement message including a type field to indicate a type of one or more acknowledgments in a list, a number field to indicate a number of the one or more acknowledgements in the list, and a list field that includes the one or more acknowledgements in the list, the list field including:

a first acknowledgement including:

a first communication identifier for a first communication; and

a first device identifier for the first node; and

a second acknowledgement including:

a second communication identifier for a second communication received by the second node from a third node; and

a second device identifier for the third node; and

grouping the one or more acknowledgments in the group acknowledgment message by type, the type indicating how the one or more acknowledgments in the group acknowledgment message are represented.

9 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , wherein the group acknowledgement message indicates a first signal strength of receiving the first communication and a second signal strength of receiving the second communication.

10 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:

determining that a first short device identifier for the first node and a second short device identifier for the second node are the same; and

based at least in part on determining that the first short device identifier for the first node and the second short device identifier for the second node are a same short device identifier, determining to use a first long device identifier for the first node and a second long device identifier for the second node, the first long device identifier for the first node being longer than the first short device identifier for the first node and the second long device identifier for the second node being longer than the second short device identifier for the second node,

wherein the first device identifier for the first node comprises the first long device identifier for the first node and the second device identifier for the second node comprises the second long device identifier for the second node.

11 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 8 , wherein

the type field comprises a first type field, the type comprises a first type, and the one or more acknowledgements in the list comprises a first list;

the first type indicating that the first acknowledgement and the second acknowledgement are formatted in a first format;

the group acknowledgement message further includes a second type field indicating that a second type of acknowledgments are included in a second list field; and

the second type indicating that the one or more acknowledgements in the second list field are formatted in a second format that is different than the first format,

wherein the second format is longer than the first format.

12 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

generating the group acknowledgement message, the group acknowledgement message including:

the first acknowledgement indicating that the first communication was received at the device from the first node, the first acknowledgment including the first communication identifier for the first communication and the first device identifier for the first node; and

the second acknowledgement indicating that the second communication was received at the device from the second node, the second acknowledgment including the second communication identifier for the second communication and the second device identifier for the second node,

wherein the generating the group acknowledgment message includes grouping acknowledgments in the group acknowledgment message by type, the type indicating how the one or more acknowledgments are represented, the one or more acknowledgments including the first acknowledgment and the second acknowledgment.

13 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 12 , wherein each group of acknowledgements of a type are indicated in the group acknowledgement message with a single type field.

14 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 12 , wherein the first node comprises a first battery powered device and the second node comprises a second battery powered device.
