Abstract

An occlusion clip comprising: (a) a spring; (b) a first runner including a first open top and a first open end adjacent the first open top, the first runner including a first interior camming surface partially delineating a first interior cavity that is open by way of the first open top and the first open end; (c) a second runner including a second open top and a second open end adjacent the second open top, the second runner including a second interior camming surface partially delineating a second interior cavity that is open by way of the second open top and the second open end, where the spring is configured to be coupled to the first runner and the second runner, where the first interior cavity is configured to receive a first portion of the spring, where the second interior cavity is configured to receive a second portion of the spring, where the first camming surface is configured to engage a first cam of the spring, and where the second camming surface is configured to engage a second cam of the spring.

Claims (47)

1. A left atrial appendage occlusion clip comprising:

a first runner comprising an occlusion surface;

a second runner comprising an occlusion surface;

first and second springs mounted to the first and second runners, each of the first and second springs comprising a proximal closed end and a pair of distal ends, wherein each of the first and second runners have a proximal end, a distal end opposite the proximal end, a length extending between the proximal and distal ends, and a width at the proximal end, the width being less than the length, wherein the proximal closed end of each of the first and second springs is adjacent the proximal ends of the first and second runners, and wherein the first and second springs bias the first and second runners toward one another,

wherein the occlusion clip is open on three sides, and

wherein the first spring is mounted to the first runner distal to a dominant axial dimension midpoint of the first runner and is mounted to the second runner distal to a dominant axial dimension midpoint of the second runner, wherein the first spring is mounted to the first and second runners in a manner precluding longitudinal repositioning of the distal ends of the first spring relative to the first and second runners.

2. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein the first and second springs are U-shaped.

3. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second springs comprises a first curved portion and a second curved portion.

4. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein the occlusion surface of each of the first and second runners is linear.

5. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein the first and second runners each comprises an opening used for mounting the first spring.

6. The occlusion clip of claim 5 , wherein each of the openings is closer to the distal end than the proximal end of the respective first and second runners.

7. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein the first runner and the second runner are unconnected to one another other than via the first and second springs.

8. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein the length is the dominant axial dimension of each of the first and second runners, and the length and width of the first runner approximates the length and width of the second runner.

9. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second runners is arcuate.

10. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein each of the first runner and the second runner includes an arcuate surface.

11. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second runners comprises a cavity therein.

12. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , wherein a first end of the pair of distal ends of the first spring is mounted to the first runner at approximately the same location as a second end of the pair of distal ends of the first spring is mounted to the second runner along the dominant axial dimensions of the first and second runners.

13. The occlusion clip of claim 1 , further comprising a first lock configured to fixedly mount the first spring to the first runner and a second lock configured to fixedly mount the first spring to the second runner.

14. A left atrial appendage occlusion clip comprising:

a first spring comprising a closed proximal end and first and second distal ends;

a second spring comprising first and second distal ends;

a first runner comprising a proximal end, a distal end opposite the proximal end, a length extending between the proximal and distal ends, and a width at the proximal end, wherein the width of the first runner is less than the length of the first runner; and

a second runner,

wherein the first and second springs are mounted to the first runner and the second runner so that the occlusion clip is open on three sides and the first and second springs bias the first and second runners towards one another,

wherein the first distal end of the first spring is mounted to the first runner distal to a dominant axial dimension midpoint of the first runner to preclude longitudinal repositioning of the first distal end of the first spring with respect to the first runner and the second distal end of the first spring is mounted to the second runner distal to a dominant axial dimension midpoint of the second runner to preclude longitudinal repositioning of the second distal end of the first spring with respect to the second runner, wherein the closed proximal end of the first spring is adjacent the proximal end of the first runner, and

wherein a dominant axial dimension of the first spring when biasing the first and second runners is no less than half of a dominant axial dimension of the occlusion clip.

15. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second runners comprises a linear occlusion surface.

16. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the first spring and the second spring are each U-shaped.

17. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second springs comprises a first curved portion and a second curved portion.

18. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second runners comprises an opening used for mounting the first spring.

19. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the first runner and the second runner are unconnected to one another other than via the first and second springs.

20. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the second runner includes a width, a height, and a length, and the length is the dominant axial dimension of each of the first and second runners, and the length and width of the first runner approximates the length and width of the second runner.

21. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the first spring and the second spring cooperate to close off a fourth side of the occlusion clip.

22. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the first spring comprises two elongate legs coupled together at the closed proximal end, wherein the elongate legs of the first spring are independently repositionable with respect to one another.

23. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second runners is arcuate.

24. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first runner and the second runner includes an arcuate surface.

25. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein each of the first and second runners comprises a cavity therein.

26. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the first distal end of the first spring is mounted to the first runner at approximately the same location as the second distal end of the first spring is mounted to the second runner along the dominant axial dimensions of the first and second runners.

27. The occlusion clip of claim 14 , wherein the second spring retards rotation of a proximal end of the first runner and a proximal end of the second runner.

28. A left atrial appendage occlusion clip comprising:

first and second springs, each of the first and second springs comprising a closed proximal end and first and second distal ends;

a first runner comprising a proximal end, a distal end opposite the proximal end, a length extending between the proximal and distal ends, and a width at the proximal end, wherein the width of the first runner is less than the length of the first runner;

a second runner comprising a proximal end, a distal end opposite the proximal end, a length extending between the proximal and distal ends, and a width at the proximal end, wherein the width of the second runner is less than the length of the second runner,

wherein the first and second springs bias the first and second runners towards one another, and

wherein the closed proximal ends of the first and second springs are adjacent the proximal ends of the first and second runners.

29. The occlusion clip of claim 28 , wherein each of the first and second runners comprises an opening used for mounting the first spring.

30. The occlusion clip of claim 28 , wherein each of the first and second runners is arcuate.
