Abstract

A method for routing electronic payment transactions may include receiving transaction-related information from a merchant, extracting transaction routing criteria from the received transaction-related information, identifying one or more eligible payment networks and one or more eligible acquirer processors based on extracted transaction routing criteria, predicting a likelihood of authorization acceptance for each combination of identified acquirer processor and identified network, identifying one or more breakeven transaction amounts for each combination of identified eligible acquirer processor and identified eligible payment network, and routing signature debit transactions from the merchant to a least cost combination of acquirer processor and PIN-less debit network selected from the eligible payment networks based on identification of a desired breakeven transaction amount for the PIN-less debit network.

Claims (64)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method comprising:

receiving transaction-related information from a merchant;

extracting transaction routing criteria from the transaction-related information;

identifying one or more eligible payment networks based on the transaction routing criteria;

identifying one or more eligible acquirer processors based on the transaction routing criteria;

predicting a plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances for a plurality of combinations of the one or more acquirer processors and the one or more eligible payment networks;

determining a least cost combination among the plurality of combinations based on the plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances;

updating a transaction routing table according to the least cost combination; and

routing a transaction from the merchant according to the updated transaction routing table.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

identifying one or more breakeven transaction amounts for the plurality of combinations, each breakeven transaction amount defining a point at which two or more combinations of the plurality of combinations have same expenses for a given transaction amount.

23 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

identifying one or more pseudo-networks corresponding to one or more of the eligible payment networks, each pseudo-network comprising a modification of a payment network to account for a change in regulatory exemption status or a change in preferred status.

24 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

sorting each of the plurality of combinations according to breakeven transaction amounts, absolute cost, availability of volume discount, and availability of preferred rates.

25 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

generating a display of routing and settlement across the plurality of combinations, and user-configurable displays of regulated versus exempt issuers.

26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:

generating a display of a first grouping of the plurality of combinations to which a set of transactions were routed relative to a second grouping of the plurality of combinations to which the set of transactions could have been routed, for an overall cost savings to the merchant.

27 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:

generating a plurality of user elements enabling a user to reveal a group of transaction routing decisions according to issuer, regulatory exemption status, and preference or preferred rate status.

28 . A device comprising:

a memory configured to store instructions; and

one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:

receiving transaction-related information from a merchant;

extracting transaction routing criteria from the transaction-related information;

identifying one or more eligible payment networks based on the transaction routing criteria;

identifying one or more eligible acquirer processors based on the transaction routing criteria;

predicting a plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances for a plurality of combinations of the one or more acquirer processors and the one or more eligible payment networks;

determining a least cost combination among the plurality of combinations based on the plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances;

updating a transaction routing table according to the least cost combination; and

routing a transaction from the merchant according to the updated transaction routing table.

29 . The device of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

identifying one or more breakeven transaction amounts for the plurality of combinations, each breakeven transaction amount defining a point at which two or more combinations of the plurality of combinations have same expenses for a given transaction amount.

30 . The device of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

identifying one or more pseudo-networks corresponding to one or more of the eligible payment networks, each pseudo-network comprising a modification of a payment network to account for a change in regulatory exemption status or a change in preferred status.

31 . The device of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

sorting each of the plurality of combinations according to breakeven transaction amounts, absolute cost, availability of volume discount, and availability of preferred rates.

32 . The device of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating a display of routing and settlement across the plurality of combinations, and user-configurable displays of regulated versus exempt issuers.

33 . The device of claim 28 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating a display of a first grouping of the plurality of combinations to which a set of transactions were routed relative to a second grouping of the plurality of combinations to which the set of transactions could have been routed, for an overall cost savings to the merchant.

34 . The device of claim 33 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating a plurality of user elements enabling a user to reveal a group of transaction routing decisions according to issuer, regulatory exemption status, and preference or preferred rate status.

35 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a device, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving transaction-related information from a merchant;

extracting transaction routing criteria from the transaction-related information;

identifying one or more eligible payment networks based on the transaction routing criteria;

identifying one or more eligible acquirer processors based on the transaction routing criteria;

predicting a plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances for a plurality of combinations of the one or more acquirer processors and the one or more eligible payment networks;

determining a least cost combination among the plurality of combinations based on the plurality of likelihood of authorization acceptances;

updating a transaction routing table according to the least cost combination; and

routing a transaction from the merchant according to the updated transaction routing table.

36 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

identifying one or more breakeven transaction amounts for the plurality of combinations, each breakeven transaction amount defining a point at which two or more combinations of the plurality of combinations have same expenses for a given transaction amount.

37 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

identifying one or more pseudo-networks corresponding to one or more of the eligible payment networks, each pseudo-network comprising a modification of a payment network to account for a change in regulatory exemption status or a change in preferred status.

38 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

sorting each of the plurality of combinations according to breakeven transaction amounts, absolute cost, availability of volume discount, and availability of preferred rates.

39 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating a display of routing and settlement across the plurality of combinations, and user-configurable displays of regulated versus exempt issuers.

40 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the operations further comprise:

generating a display of a first grouping of the plurality of combinations to which a set of transactions were routed relative to a second grouping of the plurality of combinations to which the set of transactions could have been routed, for an overall cost savings to the merchant.
