Abstract

Configurations are disclosed for a health system to be used in various healthcare applications, e.g., for patient diagnostics, monitoring, and/or therapy. The health system may comprise a light generation module to transmit light or an image to a user, one or more sensors to detect a physiological parameter of the user's body, including their eyes, and processing circuitry to analyze an input received in response to the presented images to determine one or more health conditions or defects.

Claims (40)

1. A head-mounted display system comprising:

a light source configured to output light with image information;

a waveguide configured to pass light incident from an ambient environment and to in-couple the light from the light source and to output the light to an eye of a wearer of the display system;

a user interface for receiving input from the wearer, wherein the system is configured to: project light from the waveguide to the eye of the wearer to form images in a plurality of locations in the wearer's visual field; and

detect a response regarding the images to determine an ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of locations; and

eye tracking cameras configured to image the eye of the wearer,

wherein the system is configured to image the eye to determine an orientation of the eye in view of the images at the plurality of locations such that system is configured to determine the ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of location based on the response, and wherein the system is further configured to identify visual field deficiencies based on the ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of locations, wherein the system is configured to provide a visual, audio, or tactile notification to the wearer based on detecting a hazard in an unhealthy portion of the wearer's visual field,

wherein the waveguide comprises:

in-coupling optical elements configured to in-couple light from the light source into the waveguide; and

out-coupling optical elements configured to out-couple light towards the eye of the wearer, wherein the light produces images at multiple depth planes.

2. The display system of claim 1 , wherein the display system is configured to detect a response from the wearer indicating a time at which the image becomes visible to the wearer.

3. The display system of claim 1 , wherein the images comprise moving images.

4. The display system of claim 3 , wherein the moving images move inward from a periphery of the wearer's visual field toward a center of the wearer's visual field.

5. The display system of claim 3 , wherein the moving images comprise an object approaching the eye of the wearer.

6. The display system of claim 1 , further comprising a display for forming the images in the eye of the wearer.

7. The display system of claim 6 , wherein the display comprises a fiber scanning display.

8. The display system of claim 6 , wherein the display is configured to produce images with different amounts of wavefront divergence.

9. The display system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more outward facing cameras, wherein the display system is configured to image the environment with the outward facing cameras.

10. The display system of claim 1 , wherein the display system is configured to detect a response from the wearer regarding an observed characteristic of the images.

11. The display system of claim 1 , wherein the waveguide is one waveguide in a stack of waveguides.

12. A head-mounted display system comprising:

a display configured to pass light from an ambient environment into an eye of a wearer wearing the head-mounted display system, wherein the display comprises:

a light source configured to output light;

a waveguide configured to pass light incident from an ambient environment and to in-couple the light from the light source and to output the light to an eye of a wearer of the display system;

a user interface for receiving input from the wearer, wherein the system is configured to:

project light from the waveguide to the eye of the wearer to form images in a plurality of locations in the wearer's visual field; and

detect a response regarding the images to determine an ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of locations; and

eye tracking cameras configured to image the eye of the wearer,

wherein the system is configured to image the eye to determine an orientation of the eye in view of the images at the plurality of locations such that system is configured to determine the ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of location based on the response, and wherein the system is further configured to identify visual field deficiencies based on the ability of the wearer to detect the images at the plurality of locations, and

wherein the system is configured to provide a visual, audio, or tactile notification to the wearer based on detecting a hazard in an unhealthy portion of the wearer's visual field,

wherein the waveguide comprises:

in-coupling optical elements configured to in-couple light from the light source into each waveguide; and

out-coupling optical elements configured to out-couple light towards the eye of the wearer, wherein the light produces images at multiple depth planes.

13. The display system of claim 12 , wherein the display system is configured to detect a response from the wearer indicating a time at which the image becomes visible to the wearer.

14. The display system of claim 12 , wherein the images comprise moving images.

15. The display system of claim 14 , wherein the moving images move inward from a periphery of the wearer's visual field toward a center of the wearer's visual field.

16. The display system of claim 14 , wherein the moving images comprise an object approaching the eye of the wearer.

17. The display system of claim 12 , wherein the display comprises a fiber scanning display.

18. The display system of claim 12 , wherein the display system is configured to detect a response from the wearer regarding an observed characteristic of the images.

19. The display system of claim 12 , wherein the waveguide is one waveguide in a stack of waveguides, and wherein the display is configured to produce images with different amounts of wavefront divergence.
