Abstract

Computerized systems and methods are disclosed, including a computer system that executes software that may receive a geographic location having one or more coordinates of a structure, receive a validation of the structure location, and generate unmanned aircraft information based on the one or more coordinates of the validated location. The unmanned aircraft information may include an offset from the walls of the structure to direct an unmanned aircraft to fly an autonomous flight path offset from the walls, and camera control information to direct a camera of the unmanned aircraft to capture images of the walls at a predetermined time interval while the unmanned aircraft is flying the flight path. The computer system may receive images of the walls captured by the camera while the unmanned aircraft is flying the autonomous flight path and generate a structure report based at least in part on the images.

Claims (43)

1. A non-transitory computer storage medium storing instructions that when executed by one or more processors cause an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to perform operations, comprising:

directing the UAV to fly a flight path laterally and/or vertically offset from geographic positions of an outline of a structure of interest;

directing the UAV to capture, with one or more cameras on the UAV, images of the structure of interest when the UAV reaches each of a plurality of flight capture points spaced along the flight path, wherein the flight capture points are within vertical planes perpendicular to the flight path;

detecting an obstruction in the flight path at a first flight capture point of the plurality of flight capture points;

steering the UAV to a different point than the first flight capture point, the different point within a first vertical plane of the first flight capture point, to avoid the obstruction;

adjusting a direction of the one or more cameras on the UAV relative to the structure of interest; and

capturing the images of the structure of interest with the camera on the UAV when the UAV is within the first vertical plane at the different point than the first flight capture point.

2. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the images are first images, and the instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the UAV to perform operations, comprising:

steering the UAV to a second flight capture point of the plurality of flight capture points;

adjusting the direction of the one or more cameras on the UAV relative to the structure of interest; and

capturing second images of the structure of interest from the one or more cameras on the UAV when the UAV is at the second flight capture point.

3. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the direction of the one or more cameras relative to the structure of interest comprises adjusting a yaw of the UAV at each of the vertical planes to assist in pointing the one or more cameras at a target capture point on the structure of interest.

4. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the direction of the one or more cameras relative to the structure of interest is defined further as adjusting the direction of the one or more cameras relative to the structure of interest to a predetermined angle within a range of 25-75 degrees relative to a downward direction.

5. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the vertical planes are spaced along the flight path in such a manner as to maintain at least a minimum overlap between adjacent images of the structure of interest captured by the one or more cameras.

6. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the structure of interest is a roof of a building.

7. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the UAV to perform operations, comprising:

determining a first location of the structure of interest, the first location having first geographic coordinates;

displaying, via a display unit, a first graphical representation of the structure of interest;

receiving an alteration of the first graphical representation to indicate a change of the first geographic coordinates to second geographic coordinates; and

subsequent to receiving the alteration of the first graphical representation, generating the flight path.

8. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 7 , wherein generating the flight path utilizes information pertaining to a footprint of the structure of interest, the footprint being a two-dimensional boundary of the structure of interest.

9. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 7 , wherein generating the flight path utilizes information pertaining to a footprint of the structure of interest, the footprint being an outline of the structure of interest.

10. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 7 , wherein generating the flight path utilizes information pertaining to a height of the structure of interest to aid in determining an altitude for the flight path.

11. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the information pertaining to the height of the structure of interest is received from a user.

12. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the second geographic coordinates are indicative of a validated location of the structure of interest.

13. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein detecting an obstruction utilizes imagery.

14. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the instructions that when executed by the one or more processors cause the UAV to perform operations, comprising:

generate a structure report based at least in part on the images of the structure of interest.

15. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the flight path is determined by analyzing and using geo-referenced images.

16. The non-transitory computer storage medium of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the direction of the one or more cameras relative to the structure of interest comprises adjusting a gimbal connected to the one or more cameras.

17. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) having one or more cameras, a processor, and a non-transitory computer storage medium comprising instructions that when executed by the processor cause the UAV to perform operations, comprising:

directing the UAV to fly a flight path laterally and/or vertically offset from geographic positions of an outline of a structure of interest;

directing the UAV to capture, with one or more cameras on the UAV, images of the structure of interest when the UAV reaches each of a plurality of flight capture points spaced along the flight path, wherein the flight capture points are within vertical planes perpendicular to the flight path;

detecting an obstruction in the flight path at a first flight capture point of the plurality of flight capture points;

steering the UAV to a different point than the first flight capture point, the different point within a first vertical plane of the first flight capture point, to avoid the obstruction;

adjusting a direction of the one or more cameras on the UAV relative to the structure of interest; and

capturing images of the structure of interest with the camera on the UAV when the UAV is within the first vertical plane at the different point than the first flight capture point.

18. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) of claim 17 , wherein the images are first images, and the instructions that when executed by the processor cause the UAV to perform operations, comprising:

steering the UAV to a second flight capture point of the plurality of flight capture points;
