Abstract

A mounting rail is provided that includes a DIN rail and one or more heating cable channels. A channel defined by the DIN rail may include one of the heating cable channels. Heating cables may be installed in the heating cable channels using adhesive and/or heat transfer material to form an electronics heating module. The heating cables may be self-regulating heating cables. The mounting rail may include multiple heat transfer fins that transfer heat generated by the heating cables to environment surrounding the mounting rail. A terminal block may be mounted on the DIN rail and may supply electric power to the heating cables.

Claims (47)

1 . A mounting rail having a first side and a second side, the mounting rail comprising:

a DIN rail disposed at a first side, the DIN rail comprising a pair of flanges separated by an internal distance; and

a heating cable channel disposed at the second side, the heating cable channel comprising a slot configured to receive a heating cable, and the heating cable channel extending into an area that is laterally adjacent to the internal distance between the pair of flanges of the DIN rail.

2 . The mounting rail of claim 1 , wherein the mounting rail is formed from extruded aluminum.

3 . The mounting rail of claim 2 , wherein the DIN rail defines a channel that opens in a first direction, and wherein the slot of the heating cable channel opens in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

4 . The mounting rail of claim 3 , further comprising:

a structure that forms at least a bottom surface of the DIN rail and a first sidewall of the heating cable channel.

5 . The mounting rail of claim 4 , wherein the heating cable channel comprises an additional slot configured to receive the heating cable, wherein the additional slot opens in the second direction, the mounting rail further comprising:

a first plurality of fins disposed between the slot and the additional slot and extending in a third direction that is substantially opposite the second direction and substantially perpendicular to the first direction; and

a second plurality of fins disposed between the slot and the additional slot and extending in the second direction.

6 . The mounting rail of claim 3 , further comprising:

a second heating cable channel disposed on a third side of the mounting rail that is opposite to the second side, the second heating cable channel comprising a second slot that opens in a third direction that is substantially opposite to second direction and that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction.

7 . A mounting rail having a first side and a second side, the mounting rail comprising:

a DIN rail disposed at a first side; and

a heating cable channel disposed at the second side, the heating cable channel comprising a slot configured to receive a heating cable,

wherein the mounting rail is formed from extruded aluminum; and further comprising:

a second heating cable channel disposed at the first side, the second heating cable channel comprising a second slot configured to receive a second heating cable.

8 . The mounting rail of claim 7 , wherein the DIN rail defines a channel that opens in a first direction, wherein the second slot of the second heating cable channel opens in the first direction, wherein the channel defined by the DIN rail comprises the second heating cable channel, and wherein the slot of the heating cable channel opens in a second direction that is substantially opposite to the first direction.

9 . The mounting rail of claim 8 , further comprising:

a first plurality of fins disposed at a third side of the mounting rail that extend in a third direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions; and

a second plurality of fins disposed at a fourth side of the mounting rail that extend in a fourth direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions.

10 . An electronics heating module comprising:

a mounting rail comprising:

a DIN rail comprising a pair of flanges separated by an internal distance; and

a heating cable channel extending into an area that is laterally adjacent to the internal distance between the pair of flanges of the DIN rail; and

a heating cable disposed in the heating cable channel.

11 . The electronics heating module of claim 10 , wherein the DIN rail comprises sidewalls that define portions of the heating cable channel.

12 . The electronics heating module of claim 11 , wherein the heating cable channel is a first heating cable channel that includes first slots that open in a first direction, wherein the heating cable is a first heating cable that is disposed in the first slots, the mounting rail further comprising:

a second heating cable channel that includes second slots that open in a second direction that is substantially opposite to the first direction;

a second heating cable that is disposed in the second slots of the second heating cable channel;

a first plurality of fins extending outward in a third direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first and second directions; and

a second plurality of fins extending outward in a fourth direction that is substantially opposite to the third direction.

13 . The electronics heating module of claim 10 , wherein the heating cable channel is a first heating cable channel that includes first slots that open in a first direction, wherein the DIN rail defines a channel that opens in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction, and wherein the heating cable is a first heating cable that is disposed in the first slots, the mounting rail further comprising:

a second heating cable channel that includes second slots that open in a third direction that is substantially opposite to the first direction; and

a second heating cable that is disposed in the second slots of the second heating cable channel.

14 . The electronics heating module of claim 10 , wherein the heating cable channel includes first and second slots that open in a first direction, wherein the DIN rail defines a channel that opens in a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction, and wherein the heating cable is disposed in the first and second slots, the mounting rail further comprising:

a first plurality of fins extending outward in a third direction that is substantially perpendicular to the second direction; and

a second plurality of fins extending outward in a fourth direction that is substantially opposite to the third direction, wherein the first plurality of fins and the second plurality of fins are interposed between the first and second slots.

15 . A method comprising:

extruding aluminum to form a mounting rail that comprises a DIN rail with a pair of flanges separated by an internal distance and at least one heating cable channel having at least one slot;
