Abstract

A method for mobility enhancement in wireless communication systems is provided. The method is performed by a User Equipment (UE) configured with a first Small Data Transmission (SDT) configuration by a first cell. The method includes receiving a Radio Resource Control (RRC) release message including a suspend configuration from the first cell; transitioning to an RRC INACTIVE state in response to receiving the RRC release message; receiving, in the RRC INACTIVE state, a System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) including a second SDT configuration from a second cell; camping on the second cell in response to receiving the SIB1 from the second cell; and while the UE is camping on the second cell, refraining from using the first SDT configuration to initiate an SDT procedure associated with the second cell in a case that the UE does not support performing the SDT procedure associated with the second cell.

Claims (48)

1 . A method performed by a User Equipment (UE) for mobility enhancement, the UE configured with a first Small Data Transmission (SDT) configuration by a first cell, the method comprising:

receiving a Radio Resource Control (RRC) release message comprising a suspend configuration from the first cell;

transitioning to an RRC INACTIVE state in response to receiving the RRC release message;

receiving, in the RRC INACTIVE state, a System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) comprising a second SDT configuration from a second cell;

camping on the second cell in response to receiving the SIB1 from the second cell; and

while the UE is camping on the second cell, refraining from using the first SDT configuration to initiate an SDT procedure associated with the second cell in a case that the UE does not support performing the SDT procedure associated with the second cell.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the SDT procedure comprises at least one of a Random Access (RA)-based SDT procedure, a Signaling Radio Bearer (SRB)-based SDT procedure, or a Configured Grant (CG)-based SDT procedure.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first cell comprises a Terrestrial Network (TN) cell and the second cell comprises a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) cell.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein refraining from using the first SDT configuration comprises:

maintaining, but not using, the first SDT configuration while the UE is camping on the second cell.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein refraining from using the first SDT configuration comprises:

releasing the first SDT configuration while the UE is camping on the second cell.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transitioning to an RRC IDLE state while the UE is camping on the second cell.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

initiating an RRC resume procedure associated with the second cell for uplink packet transmissions or UE capability reporting after camping on the second cell.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

switching to camp on a third cell after camping on the second cell; and

initiating the SDT procedure associated with the third cell based on the first SDT configuration in a case that the UE supports performing the SDT procedure associated with the third cell,

wherein the third cell is the first cell or a cell other than the first cell.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

while the UE is camping on the second cell, initiating the SDT procedure associated with the second cell based on the first SDT configuration and the second SDT configuration in a case that the UE supports performing the SDT procedure associated with the second cell.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first cell and the second cell are identical and are either a Terrestrial Network (TN) cell or a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) cell.

11 . A User Equipment (UE), configured with a first Small Data Transmission (SDT) configuration by a first cell, the UE comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory coupled to the at least one processor, the at least one memory storing one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the UE to:

receive a Radio Resource Control (RRC) release message comprising a suspend configuration from the first cell;

transition to an RRC INACTIVE state in response to receiving the RRC release message;

receive, in the RRC INACTIVE state, a System Information Block Type 1 (SIB1) comprising a second SDT configuration from a second cell;

camp on the second cell in response to receiving the SIB1 from the second cell; and

while the UE is camping on the second cell, refrain from using the first SDT configuration to initiate an SDT procedure associated with the second cell in a case that the UE does not support performing the SDT procedure associated with the second cell.

12 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the SDT procedure comprises at least one of a Random Access (RA)-based SDT procedure, a Signaling Radio Bearer (SRB)-based SDT procedure, or a Configured Grant (CG)-based SDT procedure.

13 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the first cell comprises a Terrestrial Network (TN) cell and the second cell comprises a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) cell.

14 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein refraining from using the first SDT configuration comprises:

maintaining, but not using, the first SDT configuration while the UE is camping on the second cell.

15 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein refraining from using the first SDT configuration comprises:

releasing the first SDT configuration while the UE is camping on the second cell.

16 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the UE to:

transition to an RRC IDLE state while the UE is camping on the second cell.

17 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the UE to:

initiate an RRC resume procedure associated with the second cell for uplink packet transmissions or UE capability reporting after camping on the second cell.

18 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the UE to:

switch to camp on a third cell after camping on the second cell; and

initiate the SDT procedure associated with the third cell based on the first SDT configuration in a case that the UE supports performing the SDT procedure associated with the third cell,

wherein the third cell is the first cell or a cell other than the first cell.

19 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the one or more computer-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, further cause the UE to:

while the UE is camping on the second cell, initiate the SDT procedure associated with the second cell based on the first SDT configuration and the second SDT configuration in a case that the UE supports performing the SDT procedure associated with the second cell.

20 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the first cell and the second cell are identical and are either a Terrestrial Network (TN) cell or a Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) cell.
