Abstract

Pellet grills and associated methods of operation are disclosed. An example pellet grill includes a waste collection drawer and one or more processors. The waste collection drawer is movable between a closed position and an open position. The one or more processors are configured to determine whether a duty cycle of the waste collection drawer has violated a threshold corresponding to a predetermined usage expectancy of the waste collection drawer. In response to determining that the duty cycle has violated the threshold, the one or more processors are configured to generate a notification indicating that the threshold has been violated.

Claims (40)

1 . A pellet grill, comprising:

a main body defining a cooking chamber;

a burn pot located within the cooking chamber;

a hopper located outside of the cooking chamber;

an auger assembly configured to transport combustible pellet fuel from the hopper into the burn pot;

an ignitor located at least partially within the burn pot, wherein an initiating activation of the ignitor causes the ignitor to initiate combustion of combustible pellet fuel located within the burn pot;

a waste collection drawer located below and slidably coupled to the main body, the waste collection drawer slidable relative to the main body between a closed position and an open position, the waste collection drawer configured to receive cooking waste generated in response to one or more cooking operations performed within the cooking chamber when the waste collection drawer is in the closed position; and

one or more processors configured to:

determine a count maintained by a duty cycle counter operatively coupled to the one or more processors, the count identifying a number of cooking operations performed within the cooking chamber since the waste collection drawer was last moved into the open position, wherein each cooking operation occurs based on an initiation command received at the pellet grill, the initiation command causing an initiating activation of the ignitor in connection with initiating the cooking operation, the number of cooking operations corresponding to a number of initiating activations of the ignitor, the duty cycle counter configured to detect each instance of the initiating activation of the ignitor;

determine whether the count violates a threshold identifying a permitted number of cooking operations to be performed within the cooking chamber since the waste collection drawer was last moved into the open position; and

in response to determining that the count violates the threshold, generate a notification indicating that the threshold has been violated.

2 . The pellet grill of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are configured to cause the notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.

3 . The pellet grill of claim 1 , wherein the notification includes a request for an input to reset the count.

4 . The pellet grill of claim 3 , wherein the duty cycle counter is resettable in response to the input.

5 . The pellet grill of claim 4 , wherein the notification is a first notification, and wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

determine whether the count has been reset;

in response to determining that the count has been reset, generate a second notification indicating that the count has been reset; and

cause the second notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.

6 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors of a pellet grill to at least:

determine a count maintained by a duty cycle counter operatively coupled to the one or more processors, the count identifying a number of cooking operations performed within a cooking chamber of the pellet grill since a waste collection drawer of the pellet grill was last moved into an open position relative to a main body of the pellet grill, wherein the main body defines the cooking chamber, wherein the pellet grill includes a burn pot located within the cooking chamber, a hopper located outside of the cooking chamber, an auger assembly configured to transport combustible pellet fuel from the hopper into the burn pot, and an ignitor located at least partially within the burn pot, wherein an initiating activation of the ignitor causes the ignitor to initiate combustion of combustible pellet fuel located within the burn pot, wherein the waste collection drawer is located below and slidably coupled to the main body, wherein the waste collection drawer is slidable relative to the main body between a closed position and the open position, wherein the waste collection drawer is configured to receive cooking waste generated in response to one or more cooking operations performed within the cooking chamber when the waste collection drawer is in the closed position, wherein each cooking operation occurs based on an initiation command received at the pellet grill, the initiation command causing an initiating activation of the ignitor in connection with initiating the cooking operation, the number of cooking operations corresponding to a number of initiating activations of the ignitor, the duty cycle counter configured to detect each instance of the initiating activation of the ignitor;

determine whether the count violates a threshold identifying a permitted number of cooking operations to be performed within the cooking chamber since the waste collection drawer was last moved into the open position; and

in response to determining that the count violates the threshold, generate a notification indicating that the threshold has been violated.

7 . A method, comprising:

determining, via one or more processors of a pellet grill, a count maintained by a duty cycle counter operatively coupled to the one or more processors, the count identifying a number of cooking operations performed within a cooking chamber of the pellet grill since a waste collection drawer of the pellet grill was last moved into an open position relative to a main body of the pellet grill, wherein the main body defines the cooking chamber, wherein the pellet grill includes a burn pot located within the cooking chamber, a hopper located outside of the cooking chamber, an auger assembly configured to transport combustible pellet fuel from the hopper into the burn pot, and an ignitor located at least partially within the burn pot, wherein an initiating activation of the ignitor causes the ignitor to initiate combustion of combustible pellet fuel located within the burn pot, wherein the waste collection drawer is located below and slidably coupled to the main body, wherein the waste collection drawer is slidable relative to the main body between a closed position and the open position, wherein the waste collection drawer is configured to receive cooking waste generated in response to one or more cooking operations performed within the cooking chamber when the waste collection drawer is in the closed position, wherein each cooking operation occurs based on an initiation command received at the pellet grill, the initiation command causing an initiating activation of the ignitor in connection with initiating the cooking operation, the number of cooking operations corresponding to a number of initiating activations of the ignitor, the duty cycle counter configured to detect each instance of the initiating activation of the ignitor;

determining, via the one or more processors, whether the count violates a threshold identifying a permitted number of cooking operations to be performed within the cooking chamber since the waste collection drawer was last moved into the open position; and

in response to determining that the count violates the threshold, generating, via the one or more processors, a notification indicating that the threshold has been violated.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 6 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the one or more processors to cause the notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.

9 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 6 , wherein the notification includes a request for an input to reset the count.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the duty cycle counter is resettable in response to the input.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the notification is a first notification, and wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:

determine whether the count has been reset;

in response to determining that the count has been reset, generate a second notification indicating that the count has been reset; and

cause the second notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.

12 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising causing, via the one or more processors, the notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.

13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the notification includes a request for an input to reset the count.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the duty cycle counter is resettable in response to the input.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the notification is a first notification, the method further comprising:

determining, via the one or more processors, whether the count has been reset;

in response to determining that the count has been reset, generating, via the one or more processors, a second notification indicating that the count has been reset; and

causing, via the one or more processors, the second notification to be at least one of (a) presented at a user interface of the pellet grill or (b) wirelessly transmitted from the pellet grill to a device located remotely from the pellet grill.
