Abstract

Methods and systems are employed for providing vehicle-associated concurrent content presentation over a network for in-vehicle use. The system determines a network of friends are traveling to a destination and provides an opportunity to enjoy listening to the same curated playlist of media content. The content presentation includes generating a playlist based on the user profiles or selection of the users or occupants of a vehicle and presenting the playlist to a number of vehicles occupied by network of friends.

Claims (64)

1. A method comprising:

receiving an input linking a first vehicle and a second vehicle and requesting media content to be provided in the first vehicle and the second vehicle; and

in response to determining that a first destination of the first vehicle matches a second destination of the second vehicle:

determining a first length of a first trip of the first vehicle to the first destination;

determining a second length of a second trip of the second vehicle to the second destination;

generating a playlist of media content items, wherein at least one of the media content items is selected based on (a) a content type, (b) a geographic origin, and (c) at least one of the first length of the first trip of the first vehicle to the first destination or the second length of the second trip of the second vehicle to the second destination;

determining a length of the generated playlist;

determining, based on the length of the generated playlist, a first time prior to an expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination;

determining, based on the length of the generated playlist, a second time prior to an expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination;

transmitting the generated playlist to the first vehicle at the first time; and

transmitting the generated playlist to the second vehicle at the second time.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a selection of a first media content item from a first user of the first vehicle; and

generating the playlist based on the selection of the first media content item.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

in response to generating the playlist based on the selection of the first media content item, presenting on an interface in the second vehicle an offer to play the generated playlist from the first vehicle; and

in response to receiving acceptance of the offer via the interface in the second vehicle, transmitting the playlist via a network to the second vehicle.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first vehicle and second vehicle are linked by a social network connection between a first user of the first vehicle and a second user of the second vehicle.

The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the playlist to the first vehicle and the second vehicle for concurrent presentation comprises transmitting the playlist over a network, wherein the network is one of a 3G network, a 4G network, an LTE network, an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network, a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) network, an Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) network, a High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network, an Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) network, or a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) network.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the first destination matches the second destination comprises:

receiving a first input of the first destination of the first vehicle;

receiving a second input of the second destination of the second vehicle; and

determining that the first destination matches the second destination based on the first input and the second input.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining that the first destination matches the second destination comprises determining that a first geographical location of the first destination is within a predefined radius of a second geographical location of the second destination.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the first time prior to the expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the first time causes the playlist to conclude at an end of the first trip of the first vehicle; and

determining the second time prior to the expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the second time causes the playlist to conclude at an end of the second trip of the second vehicle.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the first time prior to the expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the first time causes the playlist to conclude prior to an end of the first trip of the first vehicle; and

determining the second time prior to the expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the second time causes the playlist to conclude prior to an end of the second trip of the second vehicle.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the playlist of media content items comprises selecting a predetermined playlist associated with a first user of the first vehicle.

11. A system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

receive an input linking a first vehicle and a second vehicle and requesting media content to be provided in the first vehicle and the second vehicle; and

in response to determining that a first destination of the first vehicle matches a second destination of the second vehicle:

determine a first length of a first trip of the first vehicle to the first destination;

determine a second length of a second trip of the second vehicle to the second destination;

generate a playlist of media content items, wherein at least one of the media content items is selected based on (a) a content type, (b) a geographic origin, and (c) at least one of the first length of the first trip of the first vehicle to the first destination or the second length of the second trip of the second vehicle to the second destination;

determine a length of the generated playlist;

determine, based on the length of the generated playlist, a first time prior to an expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination; and

determine, based on the length of the generated playlist, a second time prior to an expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination; and

communication circuitry configured to:

transmit the playlist to the first vehicle at the first time; and

transmit the playlist to the second vehicle at the second time.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

receive a selection of a first media content item from a first user of the first vehicle; and

generate the playlist based on the selection of the first media content item.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein:

the control circuitry is further configured to, in response to generating the playlist based on the selection of the first media content item, provide for presentation on an interface in the second vehicle an offer to play the generated playlist from the first vehicle; and

the communication circuitry is further configured to, in response to receiving acceptance of the offer via the interface in the second vehicle, transmit the playlist via a network to the second vehicle.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first vehicle and second vehicle are linked by a social network connection between a first user of the first vehicle and a second user of the second vehicle.

The system of claim 11 , wherein the communication circuitry is further configured to transmit the playlist to the first vehicle and the second vehicle for concurrent presentation by transmitting the playlist over a network, wherein the network is one of a 3G network, a 4G network, an LTE network, an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network, a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network, a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network, a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) network, an Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) network, a High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network, an Evolution Data Optimized (EV-DO) network, or a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) network.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine that the first destination matches the second destination by:

receiving a first input of the first destination of the first vehicle;

receiving a second input of the second destination of the second vehicle; and

determining that the first destination matches the second destination based on the first input and the second input.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine that the first destination matches the second destination by determining that a first geographical location of the first destination is within a predefined radius of a second geographical location of the second destination.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine the first time prior to the expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the first time causes the playlist to conclude at an end of the first trip of the first vehicle; and

determine the second time prior to the expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the second time causes the playlist to conclude at an end of the second trip of the second vehicle.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine the first time prior to the expected arrival time of the first vehicle at the first destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the first time causes the playlist to conclude prior to an end of the first trip of the first vehicle; and

determine the second time prior to the expected arrival time of the second vehicle at the second destination such that playing the playlist beginning at the second time causes the playlist to conclude prior to an end of the second trip of the second vehicle.

20. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to generate the playlist of media content by selecting a predetermined playlist associated with a first user of the first vehicle.
