Abstract

Claims (44)

1. A method for use with a first web server that stores a first content that that is identified by a first Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and that comprises a first web-page or a part thereof, for use with a second web server that stores a second content that that is identified by a second URL and that comprises a second web-page or a part thereof, and for use with a list of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, wherein each of the IP addresses is associated with a respective geographical location, the method comprising:

executing, by a requesting device, a web/Internet browser application;

identifying, by the requesting device, the first URL;

sending, by the requesting device to a first device addressed by a first IP address that is selected from the list and that is associated with a first geographical location, in response to the identifying of the first URL, a first Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request by the web/Internet browser application, the first HTTP request comprises the first URL;

receiving, by the requesting device from the first device over the Internet, the first content, in response to the sending of the first HTTP request;

returning to and using by, the web/Internet browser application in the requesting device, the received first content;

identifying, by the requesting device, the second URL;

sending, by the requesting device to a second device addressed by a second IP address that is selected from the list and that is associated with a second geographical location, in response to the identifying of the second URL, a second HTTP request by the web/Internet browser application, the second HTTP request comprises the second URL;

receiving, by the requesting device from the second device over the Internet, the second content, in response to the sending of the second HTTP request; and

returning to and using by, the web/Internet browser application in the requesting device, the received second content.

2. The method according to claim 1 , for use with an additional application stored in the requesting device and is associated with a first version number, the method further comprising sending the first version number.

The method according to claim 2 , for use with a second application that is a version of the additional application that is associated with a second version number, wherein the method further comprising receiving, by the requesting device, in response to the sending of the first version number, a message that comprises the second version number.

The method according to claim 3 , further comprising downloading over the Internet, by the requesting device, in response to the receiving of the second version number, the second application, and installing the second application by the requesting device as a replacement for the additional application.

5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising selecting the first IP address from the list.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the selecting of the first IP address is by the requesting device.

7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the selecting of the first IP address is based on, or uses, the first geographical location.

8. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising selecting the second IP address from the list.

9. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the selecting of the second IP address is by the requesting device.

10. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the selecting of the second IP address is based on, or uses, the second geographical location.

11. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising storing, at the requesting device, the list and the associated geographical locations.

12. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising receiving, by the requesting device over the Internet, the list and the associated geographical locations.

13. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising periodically communicating between the requesting device and the first or second device.

14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein the periodically communicating comprises exchanging ‘keep alive’ messages.

15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first or second IP address is selected based on a response time when communicating with the requesting device.

16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the selected IP address is associated with a device that is the quickest to respond to queries from the requesting device.

17. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the requesting device, that the first or second content is valid.

18. The method according to claim 17 , wherein the determining is based on a checking that a received HTTP header is according to, or based on, IETF RFC 2616.

19. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device comprises a wireless modem for Radio-Frequency (RF) communication, and wherein the sending of the first HTTP request comprises wirelessly sending using the RF communication by the wireless modem.

20. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the sending of the first HTTP request comprises sending to the first web server via the first device, and wherein the sending of the second HTTP request comprises sending to the second web server via the second device.

21. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first web server is different from the second web server.

22. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first web server and the second web server are the same web server.

23. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first geographical location is different from the second geographical location.

24. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first geographical location and the second geographical location are the same location.

25. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising establishing, by the requesting device over the Internet, a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection with the first or second device using TCP/IP protocol.

26. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device is a client device and is not a server device.

27. The method according to claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second devices is a respective client device and is not a server device.

28. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first or second content comprises audio or video content.

29. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first or second content comprises at least one HTML object.

30. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device, the first device, or the second device, comprises, or is part of, a router device.

31. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device is a consumer communication device.

32. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first or second device is a consumer communication device.

33. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device, the first device, or the second device, is identified by a Media Access Control (MAC) address or a hostname.

34. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the requesting device communicates over the Internet based on, or according to, UDP, DNS, FTP, POP3, SMTP, SQL standard, or any combination thereof.

35. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the identifying of the first or second URL comprises intercepting, by a driver in the requesting device, the request for the respective first or second content.
