Abstract

A seat assembly includes a base and a support platform spaced above the base. The support platform includes a pad having a hinge portion defining a flex region, wherein the pad is pivotable about the flex region. A link has a lower portion coupled to the base and an upper portion coupled to the pad, wherein the upper portion is pivotable with the pad about the flex region.

Claims (28)

1. A body support member comprising:

a frame comprising a groove;

an inelastic annular stay resistant to elongation along a length thereof and comprising a continuous ring having opposite first and second annular edges and a fixed length, wherein the annular stay is rotatable between a first configuration, wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially inwardly from the second annular edge, and a second configuration, wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially outwardly of the second annular edge; and

a blank of textile material comprising a peripheral edge secured to the stay when the stay is in the first configuration, wherein the peripheral edge is rotatable with the stay between the first and second configurations, and wherein the stay is disposed in the groove when the stay is in the second configuration.

2. The body support member of claim 1 wherein the first annular edge has the same dimension in the first and second configurations.

3. A body support member comprising:

a frame comprising a groove;

an annular stay comprising a continuous ring having opposite first and second annular edges, wherein the annular stay is rotatable between a first configuration, wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially inwardly from the second annular edge, and a second configuration, wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially outwardly of the second annular edge, wherein the second annular edge is configured with a plurality of notches; and

a blank of textile material comprising a peripheral edge secured to the stay when the stay is in the first configuration, wherein the peripheral edge is rotatable with the stay between the first and second configurations, and wherein the stay is disposed in the groove when the stay is in the second configuration.

4. The body support member of claim 1 wherein the frame comprises a peripheral edge, wherein the groove is formed in and opens outwardly from the peripheral edge of the frame.

5. The body support member of claim 4 wherein the textile material covers a portion of the peripheral edge of the frame.

6. The body support member of claim 5 further comprising a flexible edge member connected to the peripheral edge of the frame and covering a portion of the textile material.

7. The body support member of claim 1 wherein the stay is rotated 180 degrees between the first and second configurations.

8. The body support member of claim 1 wherein the textile material comprises an elastic material.

9. A method of assembling a body support member comprising:

connecting an inelastic annular stay resistant to elongation along a length thereof and comprising a continuous ring to a peripheral edge of a blank of textile material, wherein the annular stay has opposite first and second annular edges and a fixed length, and wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially inwardly from the second annular edge;

rotating the annular stay and the peripheral edge of the fabric blank attached to the annular stay about the first annular edge until the first annular edge is disposed radially outwardly of the second annular edge; and

inserting the stay and the peripheral edge of the fabric blank into a groove formed in a frame.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the first annular edge has the same dimension before and after rotating the annular stay.

11. A method of assembling a body support member comprising:

connecting an annular stay comprising a continuous ring to a peripheral edge of a blank of textile material, wherein the annular stay has opposite first and second annular edges, wherein the first annular edge is disposed radially inwardly from the second annular edge, wherein the second annular edge is configured with a plurality of notches, and wherein rotating the annular stay comprises closing the notches;

rotating the annular stay and the peripheral edge of the fabric blank attached to the annular stay about the first annular edge until the first annular edge is disposed radially outwardly of the second annular edge; and

inserting the stay and the peripheral edge of the fabric blank into a groove formed in a frame.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the frame comprises a peripheral edge, wherein the groove is formed in and opens outwardly from the peripheral edge of the frame.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein inserting the stay and the portion of the fabric blank into the groove comprises covering a portion of the peripheral edge of the frame with the textile material.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising connecting a flexible edge member to the peripheral edge of the support frame and thereby covering a portion of the textile material.

15. The method of claim 9 wherein rotating the annular stay and the peripheral edge of the fabric blank comprises rotating the stay 180 degrees.

16. The method of claim 9 wherein the textile material comprises an elastic material.
