Abstract

An outdoor power equipment system includes outdoor power equipment, a battery configured to supply electrical power to the outdoor power equipment, an endpoint coupled to the battery, and a near-field communication transceiver configured to facilitate communication with the outdoor power equipment and the endpoint. The battery is coupled to a sensor that is configured to provide information indicative of a battery status. The endpoint includes a transmitter configured to transmit an endpoint location and the battery status.

Claims (32)

1 . An outdoor power equipment system comprising:

outdoor power equipment;

a battery configured to supply electrical power to the outdoor power equipment, wherein the battery is coupled to a sensor that is configured to provide information indicative of a battery status;

an endpoint coupled to the battery and including a transmitter configured to transmit an endpoint location and the battery status; and

a near-field communication transceiver configured to facilitate communication with the outdoor power equipment and the endpoint.

2 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is a current sensor, and the battery status includes information indicative of a current.

3 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the battery supplies power to the near-field communication transceiver.

4 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the endpoint is coupled to the outdoor power equipment.

5 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the near-field communication transceiver receives the battery status and the endpoint location from the endpoint.

6 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 5 , wherein the near-field communication transceiver is configured to communicate with a remote device and communicate the battery status and the endpoint location to the remote device.

7 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is a proximity sensor that is configured to detect an operating state of the outdoor power equipment.

8 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 1 , wherein the battery is rechargeable and is structured to be charged by the outdoor power equipment.

9 . A battery for outdoor power equipment, the battery comprising:

a housing;

a sensor structured to provide information indicative of a battery status;

an endpoint coupled to the housing and configured to provide information indicative of a battery location; and

a communication device communicably coupled to the endpoint and the sensor, wherein the communication device communicates the battery status and the battery location through near field communication.

10 . The battery of claim 9 , wherein the sensor is a current sensor, and the battery status includes information indicative of a current.

11 . The battery of claim 9 , wherein the sensor is a first sensor, and further including a second sensor structured to provide information indicative of the battery status.

12 . The battery of claim 11 , wherein the first sensor is a current sensor configured to measure a current.

13 . The battery of claim 12 , wherein the second sensor is a proximity sensor configured to detect an operating state of the outdoor power equipment.

14 . The battery of claim 9 , wherein the endpoint includes an operational sensor configured to provide operational information, wherein the communication device communicates the operational information associated with a timestamp, wherein the timestamp includes a time when the outdoor power equipment turned on, how long the outdoor power equipment was operational, and a time when the outdoor power equipment turned off.

15 . The battery of claim 14 , wherein the communication device includes a display that provides the battery status, the battery location, and the operational information associated with the timestamp.

16 . The battery of claim 9 , wherein the communication device is configured to communicate with a remote device and communicate the battery status and the battery location to the remote device.

17 . An outdoor power equipment system comprising:

outdoor power equipment;

a battery configured to supply electrical power to the outdoor power equipment, wherein the battery is coupled to a sensor structured to provide information indicative of a battery status;

an endpoint coupled to the battery and including a transmitter structured to transmit an endpoint location and the battery status; and

a gateway structured to facilitate communication with the outdoor power equipment and the endpoint.

18 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 17 , wherein the sensor is a first sensor, and further including a second sensor structured to provide information indicative of the battery status.

19 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 18 , wherein the first sensor is a current sensor configured to measure a current, and the second sensor is a proximity sensor configured to detect an operating state of the outdoor power equipment.

20 . The outdoor power equipment system of claim 17 , wherein the gateway is configured to receive the battery status and the endpoint location from the endpoint and communicate the battery status and the endpoint location to a remote device.
