Abstract

A reclined forearm crutch includes a leg; and a cradle attached to the leg for supporting the forearm and elbow of a use. The cradle has a bounding surface area corresponding to at least 20 in 2 . The cradle is angled about 5 to about 50 degrees relative to vertical.

Claims (22)

1. A reclined forearm crutch, comprising:

a leg portion supported on a foot and configured to extend vertically relative to a ground surface;

an arm portion coupled to a top end portion of the leg portion and being angled relative to the leg portion at a non-zero angle;

a cradle attached to the arm portion and including an arm-receiving surface configured to support a forearm of a user, wherein the arm portion is configured to move relative to the top end portion of the leg portion to move between a first position, in which the cradle and the arm portion extend from the leg portion at the non-zero angle, and a second position, in which the arm portion and the cradle extend in parallel, side-by-side relation with the leg portion, the movement of the arm portion from the first position to the second position includes a first rotation of the arm portion relative to the top end portion of the leg portion and a second rotation of the arm portion about a longitudinal axis of the arm portion and relative to the leg portion; and

a handle positioned adjacent the top end portion of the leg portion and disconnected from the arm portion such that the handle remains positioned adjacent the top end portion of the leg portion when the arm portion moves from the first position to the second position.

2. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 1 , wherein the non-zero angle is from about 5 degrees to about 50 degrees.

3. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 1 , wherein the cradle includes a front end portion, and a rear end portion rotationally coupled to a top end portion of the arm portion.

The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 1 , wherein the cradle is configured to rotate relative to the arm portion between a first position, in which the cradle extends in parallel, side-by-side relation with the arm portion, and a second position, in which the cradle is angled relative to the arm portion.

5. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 4 , wherein the arm-receiving surface of the cradle faces and is adjacent the leg portion when the arm portion is in the second position and the cradle is in the first position.

6. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 1 , further comprising a clip configured to detachably secure the cradle to the arm portion, wherein the cradle includes a base surface opposite the arm-receiving surface, the clip extending from the base surface.

7. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 1 , wherein the cradle is configured for supporting the forearm and an elbow of the user, the cradle including an elbow end having an elbow cup, and a wrist end spatially separated from the elbow end along a longitudinal axis of the cradle.

8. A reclined forearm crutch, comprising:

a vertical leg having a top end portion and a bottom end portion;

a foot coupled to the bottom end portion of the vertical leg;

an angled arm extending at an angle from the top end portion of the vertical leg;

a cradle rotatably coupled to the angled arm and including an arm-receiving surface configured to support a forearm of a user, wherein the angled arm is configured to move relative to the vertical leg between a forearm crutch position, in which the angled arm extends at the angle from the vertical leg, and a cane position, in which the angled arm extends in side-by-side relation with the vertical leg, the movement of the angled arm from the forearm crutch position to the cane position includes a first rotation of the angled arm relative to the top end portion of the vertical leg and a second rotation of the angled arm about a longitudinal axis of the angled arm and relative to the vertical leg; and

a handle positioned adjacent the top end portion of the vertical leg, wherein the handle is disconnected from the angled arm and the cradle such that the handle remains positioned adjacent the top end portion of the vertical leg when the angled arm is in the cane position.

9. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 8 , wherein when the angled arm is in the cane position, the arm-receiving surface of the cradle rests substantially adjacent the top end portion of the vertical leg.

10. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 9 , wherein the angled arm is coupled to the vertical leg via a string or a hinge.

The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 8 , wherein the cradle includes a front end portion, and a rear end portion rotationally coupled to the angled arm such that the cradle is configured to rotate relative to the angled arm between a first position, in which the cradle extends in parallel, side-by-side relation with the angled arm, and a second position, in which the cradle extends at a non-parallel angle relative to the angled arm.

12. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 8 , further comprising a clip configured to detachably secure the cradle to the angled arm, wherein the cradle includes a base surface opposite the arm-receiving surface, the clip extending from the base surface.

13. The reclined forearm crutch according to claim 8 , wherein the cradle is configured for supporting the forearm and an elbow of the user, the cradle including an elbow end having an elbow cup, and a wrist end spatially separated from the elbow end along a longitudinal axis of the cradle.
