Abstract

Various aspects described herein relate to presenting drug dispensing information. Data related to a plurality of dispensing events initiated by one or more employees, of an electronic drug dispensing system can be received. A set of dispensing events of the plurality of dispensing events can be determined as constituting possible misappropriation of drugs by the one or more employees. An alert related to the set of dispensing events can be provided based on determining that the set of dispensing events constitute possible misappropriation of drugs.

Claims (36)

1. A computer-implemented method for displaying an indication of a possible drug misappropriation in a graphical user interface (GUI), the method comprising:

determining, by one or more processors, whether at least one event of a plurality of drug dispensing events and/or drug wasting events constitutes a possible drug misappropriation;

displaying, by the one or more processors, a first window within the graphical user interface, the first window containing interactive graphical information depicting a plurality of drug dispensing and/or drug wasting events by a plurality of employees;

displaying, in the first window, by the one or more processors, one or more interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, wherein upon determining that at least two events constitute possible drug misappropriations, displaying the interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least two events that constitute possible drug misappropriations in order of a determined priority; and

upon detecting a user interaction with one of the one or more interactive graphical alerts, displaying, by the one or more processors, a second window within the graphical user interface, the second window containing additional information of the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, the additional information facilitating further investigation of the at least one event by including an identification of at least one employee of the plurality of employees associated with the possible drug misappropriation and a timestamp of the possible drug misappropriation.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the interactive graphical information includes a feedback component for receiving feedback that enables activation or deactivation of a rule or a pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , the method further comprising:

receiving, by the one or more processors, via the feedback component, feedback indicating whether the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation is an actual drug misappropriation.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the feedback received via the feedback component activates or deactivates the rule or the pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the graphical information is generated by:

receiving, by a distributed analytics system, drug dispensing data from one or more data sources, the one or more data sources comprising at least one of: one or more dispensing logs or one or more electronic medical records (EMRs) received from a healthcare provider network;

identifying, by the distributed analytics system, a plurality of dispensing events by a plurality of users based at least in part on the one or more dispensing logs;

detecting, by the distributed analytics system, the at least one event based on at least one of one or more rules or one or more drug dispensing patterns;

determining, by the distributed analytics system, at least one confidence level corresponding to the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation, wherein the at least one confidence level is based on at least one of which of the one or more rules the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation satisfies, which of the one or more drug dispensing patterns to which the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation relates, or a level of deviation of the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation from the one or more drug dispensing patterns.

The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more dispensing logs identify at least one of: at least one employee of the plurality of users requesting dispensing of a drug, patient information, the drug being dispensed, an amount of the drug being dispensed, or wasting information.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the one or more rules relate to determining, based on the plurality of dispensing events, at least one of: a certain type of drug, a drug quantity, or a wasting of a certain drug type over a threshold amount over a period of time.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the alert identifies a user of the plurality of users that dispensed the drug, a drug type, a drug amount, a wasting event, or prescription information.

9. A system for displaying an indication of a possible drug misappropriation on a graphical user interface (GUI), the system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one storage device comprising instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

determining whether at least one event of a plurality of drug dispensing events and/or drug wasting events constitutes a possible drug misappropriation;

displaying a first window within the graphical user interface, the first window containing interactive graphical information depicting a plurality of drug dispensing and/or drug wasting events by a plurality of employees;

displaying, in the first window, one or more interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, wherein upon determining that at least two events constitute possible drug misappropriations, displaying the interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least two events that constitute possible drug misappropriations in order of a determined priority; and

upon detecting a user interaction with one of the one or more interactive graphical alerts, displaying a second window within the graphical user interface, the second window containing additional information of the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, the additional information facilitating further investigation of the at least one event by including an identification of at least one employee of the plurality of employees associated with the possible drug misappropriation and a timestamp of the possible drug misappropriation.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the interactive graphical information includes a feedback component for receiving feedback that enables activation or deactivation of a rule or a pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.

11. The system of claim 10 , further including receiving, via the feedback component, feedback indicating whether the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation is an actual drug misappropriation.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the feedback received via the feedback component activates or deactivates the rule or the pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the alert identifies a user of the plurality of users that dispensed the drug, a drug type, a drug amount, a wasting event, or prescription information.

14. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by at least one processor of a system, cause the at least one processor to perform operations for displaying an indication of a possible drug misappropriation on a graphical user interface (GUI), the operations comprising:

determining whether at least one event of a plurality of drug dispensing events and/or drug wasting events constitutes a possible drug misappropriation;

displaying a first window within the graphical user interface, the first window containing interactive graphical information depicting a plurality of drug dispensing and/or drug wasting events by a plurality of employees;

displaying, in the first window, one or more interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, wherein upon determining that at least two events constitute possible drug misappropriations, displaying the interactive graphical alerts depicting the at least two events that constitute possible drug misappropriations in order of a determined priority; and

upon detecting a user interaction with one of the one or more interactive graphical alerts, displaying a second window within the graphical user interface, the second window containing additional information of the at least one event that constitutes the possible drug misappropriation, the additional information facilitating further investigation of the at least one event by including an identification of at least one employee of the plurality of employees associated with the possible drug misappropriation and a timestamp of the possible drug misappropriation.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the interactive graphical information includes a feedback component for receiving feedback that enables activation or deactivation of a rule or a pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , further including receiving, via the feedback component, feedback indicating whether the at least one detected possible drug misappropriation is an actual drug misappropriation.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the feedback received via the feedback component activates or deactivates the rule or the pattern used to determine the drug misappropriation.
