Abstract

A method includes receiving, by a computing system, a plurality of digital models corresponding to a plurality of dental aligners each configured to move one or more teeth based on one or more treatment plans; analyzing, by the computing system, a geometric characteristic of the plurality of digital models; preparing, by the computing system, the plurality of digital models for manufacturing the plurality of dental aligners by adding one or more support structures to at least one digital model of the plurality of digital models based on the analysis; forming, via additive manufacturing, the plurality of dental aligners including at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures; receiving, by a laser system, the at least one dental aligner; and cutting, by the laser system, the one or more support structures from the at least one dental aligner.

21 . A method comprising:

receiving, by a computing system, a plurality of digital models corresponding to a plurality of dental aligners each configured to move one or more teeth based on one or more treatment plans;

analyzing, by the computing system, a geometric characteristic of the plurality of digital models;

preparing, by the computing system, the plurality of digital models for manufacturing the plurality of dental aligners by adding one or more support structures to at least one digital model of the plurality of digital models based on the analysis;

forming, via additive manufacturing, the plurality of dental aligners including at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures;

receiving, by a laser system, the at least one dental aligner; and

cutting, by the laser system, the one or more support structures from the at least one dental aligner.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the geometric characteristic comprises a size or shape of the plurality of digital models.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein cutting the one or more support structures comprises cutting a continuous interface between the one or more support structures and the at least one dental aligner.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein forming the at least one dental aligner comprises fabricating the at least one dental aligner layer-by-layer at an angle in a range of 5 degrees to 45 degrees relative to a normal of a surface.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of dental aligners are formed simultaneously.

26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising orienting, by the laser system, the at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures relative to the laser system by locating one or more features of the at least one dental aligner.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the one or more features of the at least one dental aligner includes at least one of a fiducial, a data matrix, or a readable indicium positioned on the at least one dental aligner.

28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein:

adding the one or more support structures comprises determining, by the computing system, an attachment position of the one or more support structures relative to the at least one dental aligner; and

the attachment position includes at least one of an occlusal surface or an edge of the at least one dental aligner.

The method of claim 21 , wherein a laser of the laser system is configured to cut the one or more support structures such that support structures positioned along an edge of the at least one dental aligner are cut prior to support structures positioned near a center of the at least one dental aligner.

30 . A system comprising:

a fabrication computing system having one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the fabrication computing system to:

receive a plurality of digital models corresponding to a plurality of dental aligners each configured to move one or more teeth based on one or more treatment plans;

analyze a geometric characteristic of the plurality of digital models; and

prepare the plurality of digital models for manufacturing the plurality of dental aligners by adding one or more support structures to at least one digital model of the plurality of digital models based on the analysis;

a 3D printing fabrication system configured to print the plurality of dental aligners including at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures; and

a laser system having one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the laser system to:

receive the at least one dental aligner; and

cut the one or more support structures from the at least one dental aligner.

31 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the geometric characteristic comprises a size or shape of the plurality of digital models.

32 . The system of claim 30 , wherein cutting the one or more support structures comprises cutting a continuous interface between the one or more support structures and the at least one dental aligner.

33 . The system of claim 30 , wherein printing the at least one dental aligner comprises printing the at least one dental aligner layer-by-layer at an angle in a range of 5 degrees to 45 degrees relative to a normal of a surface.

34 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the plurality of dental aligners are formed simultaneously.

35 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the instructions of the laser system when executed further cause the laser system to orient the at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures by locating one or more features of the at least one dental aligner.

36 . The system of claim 30 , wherein:

adding the one or more support structures comprises determining an attachment position of the one or more support structures relative to the at least one dental aligner; and

the attachment position includes at least one of an occlusal surface or an edge of the at least one dental aligner.

The system of claim 30 , wherein the instructions of the laser system when executed further cause the laser system to cut the one or more support structures such that support structures positioned along an edge of the at least one dental aligner are cut prior to support structures positioned near a center of the at least one dental aligner.

38 . A system comprising:

a fabrication computing system having one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the fabrication computing system to:

receive a plurality of digital models corresponding to a plurality of dental aligners each configured to move one or more teeth based on one or more treatment plans;

analyze a geometric characteristic of the plurality of digital models; and

prepare the plurality of digital models for manufacturing the plurality of dental aligners by adding one or more support structures to at least one digital model of the plurality of digital models based on the analysis; and

a 3D printing fabrication system configured to print the plurality of dental aligners including at least one dental aligner with the one or more support structures.

39 . The system of claim 38 , wherein the geometric characteristic comprises a size or shape of the plurality of digital models.

40 . The system of claim 38 , wherein the one or more support structures are configured to be removed.
