Abstract

A shelter system is shown and described. A hub for a shelter system is shown and described. A frame for a shelter system is shown and described. In one embodiment, the shelter system includes a frame, a cover and a hub. The frame may be collapsible. The cover is configured to fit with the frame. The hub may include a receiver slot, a receiver sleeve and an attachment projection. The result is a shelter system with reduced set up time, effort and requirements and improved strength and ease of use. The inventions may also be considered a shelter kit and/or a shelter and hub method.

Claims (37)

1. A rapid-deployment shelter system, said shelter system comprising:

a first shelter including:

a first side having an exterior frame opening,

a second side, opposite the first side, and also including an exterior frame opening,

a third side having an exterior frame opening, and

a fourth side, opposite the third side, and also including an exterior frame opening,

wherein each of the first, second, third and fourth sides meet adjacently with another of the sides to form a corner between each of the sides,

a frame for supporting the first shelter of the shelter system, the frame including a frame end at each exterior frame opening, the frame end including:

a pair of upper angles of greater than 90 degrees, and

an upper angle at a top peak of the frame end that is greater than 125 degrees.

2. The shelter system of claim 1 , including a second shelter having at least one exterior frame opening.

3. The shelter system of claim 1 , wherein the first shelter is a hub shelter.

4. The shelter system of claim 3 , wherein the hub shelter exterior frame openings and the second shelter exterior frame openings are configured to share matching exterior frame openings.

5. The shelter system of claim 4 , wherein the hub shelter and the second shelter adjoin one with another to form a continuous interior space inside to form a shelter complex.

6. The shelter system of claim 5 , wherein the hub shelter and the second shelter are covered each by a respective canopy.

7. The shelter system of claim 6 , wherein the corner is covered by a corner canopy portion of the hub shelter canopy.

8. The shelter system of claim 7 wherein the corner canopy portion is configured to remain exposed when the hub shelter and the second shelter are mated.

9. The shelter system of claim 8 including a third shelter including an exterior frame opening, wherein the third shelter is adapted to mate with another of the hub A shelter's framed openings when a second shelter is already mated with one of the framed openings.

10. The shelter system of claim 9 including a fourth shelter including an exterior frame opening, wherein the fourth shelter is adapted to mate with another of the hub shelter's framed openings when a second and third shelter is already mated with one of the framed openings.

11. The shelter system of claim 10 wherein the hub shelter, the second shelter, the third shelter, and the fourth shelter adjoin one with another to form a continuous interior space inside to form a shelter complex.

12. The shelter system of claim 10 wherein the corner canopy portion is configured to remain exposed between any of the second, third, and fourth shelters that are mated to the hub shelter.

13. The shelter system of claim 12 including a fifth shelter including an exterior frame opening, wherein the fifth shelter is adapted to mate with another of the hub shelter's framed openings when a second, third and fourth shelter is already mated with one of the framed openings.

14. A rapid-deployment shelter system forming a shelter complex, said shelter system comprising:

a shelter including:

a first side having an exterior frame opening,

a second side, opposite the first side, and also including an exterior frame opening,

a third side having an exterior frame opening, and

a fourth side, opposite the third side, and also including an exterior frame opening,

wherein each of the first, second, third and fourth sides meet adjacently with another of the sides to form a corner frame support between each of the sides,

the exterior frame openings including a pair of lower frame poles and a pair of upper frame poles, the lower frame poles supporting the exterior frame opening at a ground surface on one end and interfacing with one of the pair of upper frame poles on an opposite end, the upper frame poles interacting with each other to form a top peak,

wherein the interface between the lower frame poles and the upper frame poles form upper angles at the interface greater than 90 degrees and the top peak includes an upper peak angle that is greater than the upper angles.

15. The shelter of claim 14 wherein the shelter exterior frame opening top peak is 125 degrees or greater where the upper frame poles interface.

16. The shelter of claim 15 wherein the lower frame poles form angles as to a ground surface that are less than the angles at the upper frame poles.

17. The shelter of claim 14 including a cover configured to fit on the shelter, the cover including exterior sides and corner portions between the sides.

18. The shelter system of claim 17 wherein the shelter and the second shelter form a shelter complex with a shared interior space.

19. The shelter system of claim 18 including an assembled and a retracted position, wherein a set of the shelter frame poles stay assembled one to another and retract to parallel positions when the shelter is in the retracted position.

20. The shelter of claim 19 wherein said shelter complex is scalable by mating a second, third, fourth, and fifth shelter to the shelter, and wherein additional shelters may be interfaced with the unmated, opposite ends of the second, third, fourth, and fifth shelters.
