Abstract

A method includes detecting, by a first computing device of a plurality of computing devices associated with a tracking system server, a tracking signal from a tracking device flagged as being lost. The first computing device is associated with a subset of the plurality of computing devices associated with the tracking system server. The subset of the plurality of computing devices is associated with a group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device. The method further includes determining, by the first computing device, and based on the tracking signal, a current location of the tracking device, and sending, by the first computing device, a notification to a user device associated with the tracking device. The notification includes an identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

Claims (31)

1 . A method, comprising:

detecting, by a first computing device of a plurality of computing devices associated with a tracking system server, a tracking signal from a tracking device flagged as being lost, wherein the first computing device is associated with a subset of the plurality of computing devices associated with the tracking system server, and wherein the subset of the plurality of computing devices is associated with a group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device;

determining, by the first computing device, and based on the tracking signal, a current location of the tracking device; and

sending, by the first computing device, a notification to a user device associated with the tracking device, wherein the notification comprises an identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users having one or more of a personal relationship to a user of the user device or a familial relationship to the user of the user device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users that are authorized by a user of the user device to track the tracking device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the current location of the tracking device comprises determining, by the first computing device, the current location of the tracking device based on a proximity of the tracking device to the first computing device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing, by the first computing device, and to the tracking system server, the identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the current location of the tracking device comprises determining, by the first computing device, the current location of the tracking device based on a location or a time at which the first computing device first detected the tracking signal.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the notification to the user device associated with the tracking device comprises automatically sending, by the first computing device, an electronic notification to the user device without receiving a corresponding user input that instructs the first computing device to send the notification.

8 . A community computing device, comprising:

one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media including instructions; and

one or more processors coupled to the one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media, the one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to:

detect, by the community computing device of a plurality of computing devices associated with a tracking system server, a tracking signal from a tracking device flagged as being lost, wherein the community computing device is associated with a subset of the plurality of computing devices associated with the tracking system server, and wherein the subset of the plurality of computing devices is associated with a group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device;

determine, based on the tracking signal, a current location of the tracking device; and

send a notification to a user device associated with the tracking device, wherein the notification comprises an identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

9 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users having one or more of a personal relationship to a user of the user device or a familial relationship to the user of the user device.

10 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users that are authorized by a user of the user device to track the tracking device.

11 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device further comprise instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device based on a proximity of the tracking device to the community computing device.

12 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the instructions further comprise instructions to provide, to the tracking system server, the identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

13 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device further comprise instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device based on a location or a time at which the community computing device first detected the tracking signal.

14 . The community computing device of claim 8 , wherein the instructions to send the notification to the user device associated with the tracking device further comprise instructions to automatically send an electronic notification to the user device without receiving a corresponding user input that instructs the community computing device to send the notification.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a community computing device of a plurality of computing devices, cause the community computing device to:

detect, by the community computing device of a plurality of computing devices associated with a tracking system server, a tracking signal from a tracking device flagged as being lost, wherein the community computing device is associated with a subset of the plurality of computing devices associated with the tracking system server, and wherein the subset of the plurality of computing devices is associated with a group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device;

determine, based on the tracking signal, a current location of the tracking device; and

send a notification to a user device associated with the tracking device, wherein the notification comprises an identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users having one or more of a personal relationship to a user of the user device or a familial relationship to the user of the user device.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the group of users that are authorized to track the tracking device corresponds to a group of users that are authorized by a user of the user device to track the tracking device.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device further comprise instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device based on a proximity of the tracking device to the community computing device.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further comprise instructions to provide, to the tracking system server, the identification of the tracking device and the determined current location of the tracking device.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device further comprise instructions to determine the current location of the tracking device based on a location or a time at which the community computing device first detected the tracking signal.
