Abstract

A telephony device includes a memory that stores firmware to operate the telephony device. The telephony device includes a network interface that transmits a first command to establish a connection with a telephony server. The telephony device includes a receiver that receives a second command from a device manager. The second command includes an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device. The telephony device includes a processor that upgrades the firmware of the telephony device based on the second command. The processor establishes a connection to a virtual meeting room platform based on the upgraded firmware.

Claims (51)

1. A device management system comprising:

a device manager of a unified communications as a service (UCaaS) platform, the device manager comprising a processor and a memory configured to:

obtain a device configuration for a telephony device from an external telephony server of a manufacturer of the telephony device via session initiation protocol (SIP) messaging to configure the telephony device to operate on a virtual meeting platform;

prior to operation of the telephony device on the virtual meeting platform, generate an application package for the telephony device based on the device configuration; and

transmit the application package to the telephony device.

2. The device management system of claim 1 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server.

3. The device management system of claim 1 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the device manager is configured to receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

4. The device management system of claim 1 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the device manager is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the server.

5. The device management system of claim 1 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the device manager is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the telephony device via the server to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

6. The device management system of claim 1 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the device manager is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the telephony device via the server to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device to enable the telephony device to connect to the virtual meeting platform using the upgraded firmware.

7. The device management system of claim 1 , further comprising a server that is a customer enterprise system server device.

8. A method comprising:

obtaining, at a device manager of a unified communications as a service (UCaaS) platform, a device configuration for a telephony device from an external telephony server of a manufacturer of the telephony device via session initiation protocol (SIP) messaging to configure the telephony device to operate on a virtual meeting platform;

prior to operation of the telephony device on the virtual meeting platform, generating an application package for the telephony device based on the device configuration; and

transmitting the application package to the telephony device.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware, the method further comprising:

receiving an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server, the method further comprising:

receiving an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmitting the instruction to the server.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware, the method further comprising:

receiving an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmitting the instruction to the telephony device to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware, the method further comprising:

receiving an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmitting the instruction to the telephony device to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device to enable the telephony device to connect to the virtual meeting platform using the upgraded firmware.

14. A device manager of a unified communications as a service (UCaaS) platform, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor configured to:

obtain a device configuration for a telephony device from an external telephony server of a manufacturer of the telephony device via session initiation protocol (SIP) messaging to configure the telephony device to operate on a virtual meeting platform;

prior to operation of the telephony device on the virtual meeting platform, generate an application package for the telephony device based on the device configuration; and

transmit the application package to the telephony device.

15. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server.

16. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the processor is configured to receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

17. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the processor is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the server.

18. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the processor is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the telephony device via the server to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device.

19. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the telephony device comprises firmware that is configured to communicate with a server and the device manager is configured to:

receive an instruction to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device; and

transmit the instruction to the telephony device via the server to upgrade the firmware of the telephony device to enable the telephony device to connect to the virtual meeting platform using the upgraded firmware.

20. The device manager of claim 14 , wherein the processor is configured to perform an authentication.
