Abstract

A method is provided. The method is for power delivery in a wireless power system including a transmitter and a receiver. The method includes receiving, by the receiver, a focused power transmitted by the transmitter and directly measuring, by the receiver, a radio frequency (RF) power level of the focused power. The method includes determining whether the power level of the focused power exceeds a threshold and performing operations based upon the power level exceeding or not exceeding the threshold.

Claims (32)

1 . A method for power delivery in a wireless power system including a transmitter and a receiver, the method comprising:

receiving, by the receiver, a focused power transmitted by the transmitter;

directly measuring, by the receiver, a radio frequency (RF) power level of the focused power; and

determining whether the power level of the focused power exceeds a threshold; and

performing one or more operations based upon the power level exceeding or not exceeding the threshold.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter comprises a power transmitter,

wherein the receiver comprises a power receiver, and

wherein the power transmitter and the power receiver of the wireless power system are powered up in a low power state.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the power level of the focused power corresponds to a minimum power level.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the wireless power system sets a transmitter power to the minimum power level.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the minimum power level results in less than two (2) watts (W) radio frequency (RF) power at one (1) meter for the power level of the focused power received by the receiver.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiver transmits a beacon to the transmitter to cause the transmitter to transmit the focused power.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more operations comprise generating a message when the wireless power system determines that the power level exceeds the threshold.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises data indicating that a distance between the transmitter and the receiver is too small.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the message comprises data indicating to move one or both of the transmitter and the receiver.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more operations comprise increasing the focused power transmitted by the transmitter when the wireless power system determines that the power level does not exceed the threshold.

11 . A method for power delivery in a wireless power system including a transmitter and a receiver, the method comprising:

receiving, by the transmitter, a beacon from the receiver;

analyzing, by the transmitter, received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data of the beacon to measure a beacon received signal strength indicator (RSSI); and

determining whether the beacon received signal strength indicator (RSSI) exceeds a threshold; and

performing one or more operations based upon the beacon received signal strength indicator (RSSI) exceeding or not exceeding the threshold.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transmitter comprises a power transmitter,

wherein the receiver comprises a power receiver, and

wherein the power transmitter and the power receiver of the wireless power system are powered up in a low power state.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless power system sets a transmitter power to a minimum power level.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the minimum power level results in less than two (2) watts (W) radio frequency (RF) power at one (1) meter for the power level of a focused power received by the receiver.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transmitter transmits a focused power to the receiver.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the transmitter analyzes the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) data to estimate a radio frequency (RF) power level received by the receiver and compare the radio frequency (RF) power level to the threshold.

17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more operations comprise generating a message when the wireless power system determines that the beacon received signal strength indicator (RSSI) exceeds the threshold.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the message comprises data indicating that a distance between the transmitter and the receiver is too small.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the message comprises data indicating to move one or both of the transmitter and the receiver.

20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more operations comprise increasing a transmitter power of the transmitter when the wireless power system determines that the beacon received signal strength indicator (RSSI) does not exceed the threshold.
