Abstract

A computerized method for determining an operability status of a ball-throwing machine is disclosed that includes operations of obtaining sensor data collected by a sensor during deployment of the ball-throwing machine to perform operations according to a training program including launching a series of balls, wherein the sensor is disposed on the ball-throwing machine, parsing the sensor data into segments, comparing the segments to a sequence of predetermined signatures, wherein the sequence of the predetermined signatures is ordered according to actions specified by the training program, and wherein the predetermined signatures represent known sensor data values for the operations performed according to the training program, and when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating abnormally.

Claims (40)

1 . A computerized method for determining an operability status of a ball-throwing machine, the computerized method comprising:

obtaining sensor data collected by a sensor during deployment of the ball-throwing machine to perform operations according to a training program including launching a series of balls, wherein the sensor is disposed on the ball-throwing machine;

parsing the sensor data into segments;

comparing the segments to a sequence of predetermined signatures, wherein the sequence of the predetermined signatures is ordered according to actions specified by the training program, and wherein the predetermined signatures represent known sensor data values for the operations performed according to the training program; and

when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating abnormally.

2 . The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising:

when less than a first threshold percentage of the segments are indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating properly.

3 . The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data includes at least one of audio data collected by a microphone, vibration data collected by an accelerometer, ball-presence data collected by a ball-sensor, temperature data collected by a temperature sensor, or current data collected by a current sensor

4 . The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein a first segment is indicated as being consistent with a first predetermined signature when at least a percentage of the sensor data comprising the first segment matches with sensor data comprising the first predetermined signature.

5 . The computerized method of claim 4 , wherein the first segment is indicated as being consistent with the first predetermined signature also requires a time duration of the first segment to be within a threshold time range for the first predetermined signature.

6 . The computerized method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data is parsed into the segments based on either a variability in the sensor data or expected time durations for actions of the training program.

7 . The computerized method of claim 1 further comprising:

when the ball-throwing machine is determined to be operating improperly, generating an alert indicating that the ball-throwing machine is operating improperly, and causing display of the alert on a display of a network device.

8 . A computing device comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform:

obtaining sensor data collected by a sensor during deployment of a ball-throwing machine to perform operations according to a training program including launching a series of balls, wherein the sensor is disposed on the ball-throwing machine;

parsing the sensor data into segments;

comparing the segments to a sequence of predetermined signatures, wherein the sequence of the predetermined signatures is ordered according to actions specified by the training program, and wherein the predetermined signatures represent known sensor data values for the operations performed according to the training program; and

when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating abnormally.

9 . The computing device of claim 8 , wherein the processor further performs:

when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are not indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating properly.

10 . The computing device of claim 8 , wherein the sensor data includes at least one of audio data collected by a microphone, vibration data collected by an accelerometer, ball-presence data collected by a ball-sensor, temperature data collected by a temperature sensor, or current data collected by a current sensor

11 . The computing device of claim 8 , wherein a first segment is indicated as being consistent with a first predetermined signature when at least a percentage of the sensor data comprising the first segment matches with sensor data comprising the first predetermined signature.

12 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the first segment is indicated as being consistent with the first predetermined signature also requires a time duration of the first segment to be within a threshold time range for the first predetermined signature.

13 . The computing device of claim 8 , wherein the sensor data is parsed into the segments based on either a variability in the sensor data or expected time durations for actions of the training program.

14 . The computing device of claim 8 , wherein the processor further performs:

when the ball-throwing machine is determined to be operating improperly, generating an alert indicating that the ball-throwing machine is operating improperly, and causing display of the alert on a display of a network device.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform:

obtaining sensor data from a sensor collected during deployment of a ball-throwing machine to perform operations according to a training program, wherein the sensor is disposed on the ball-throwing machine;

parsing the sensor data into segments;

comparing the segments to a sequence of predetermined signatures, wherein the sequence of the predetermined signatures is ordered according to actions specified by the training program, and wherein the predetermined signatures represent known sensor data values for the operations performed according to the training program; and

when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating abnormally.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the processor further performs:

when at least a first threshold percentage of the segments are not indicated as being inconsistent with the sequence of predetermined signatures, determining that the ball-throwing machine is operating properly.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the sensor data includes at least one of audio data collected by a microphone, vibration data collected by an accelerometer, ball-presence data collected by a ball-sensor, temperature data collected by a temperature sensor, or current data collected by a current sensor

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein a first segment is indicated as being consistent with a first predetermined signature when at least a percentage of the sensor data comprising the first segment matches with sensor data comprising the first predetermined signature.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the sensor data is parsed into the segments based on either a variability in the sensor data or expected time durations for actions of the training program.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the processor further performs:

when the ball-throwing machine is determined to be operating improperly, generating an alert indicating that the ball-throwing machine is operating improperly, and causing display of the alert on a display of a network device.
