Thermo truck with laterally disposed direct fired heating kettles and surface applicator system
A surface marking truck for heating and applying thermoplastic material. The surface marking truck is comprised of laterally disposed direct fired kettles positioned within at least one firebox. The kettles are constructed and arranged to provide a platform area for placement of pallets above the kettles for storing material and refilling of each kettle. The thermoplastic material held in the kettles and totes is heated to a preferred application temperature with an application system mounted to the truck. Retro-reflective glass beads can be added to the thermoplastic during the spraying step.
1 . A mobile truck apparatus for applying thermoplastic material to road surfaces, said apparatus comprising:
at least one kettle positioned laterally on a truck frame for receipt of thermoplastic material;
a firebox placed around each said kettle, said firebox having an inlet and an outlet;
a burner directly coupled to said firebox inlet, said burner directing heat to an outer surface of each said kettle for melting thermoplastic material placed within said kettle with excess heat exhausted through said firebox outlet;
a platform positioned above each said kettle, said platform available for receipt of thermoplastic material;
means for directly thermoplastic material through said kettle;
at least one container mounted to said platform for holding glass beads; and
a spraying mechanism having a spray dispensing device operatively associated with said kettle for use in mixing said thermoplastic material with glass beads for application to a road surface.
