Foot-and-mouth disease vaccine
Compositions for prevention of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) are provided, comprising an antigen component in the amount equivalent to 0.5-20 μg FMD virus and an adjuvant component comprising oil, an immunostimulatory oligonucleotide, and a polycationic carrier. Methods of using the composition, as well as the methods of reducing FMD persistence are also provided.
1. A method of herd management, comprising administering to each member in said herd an immunogenic composition wherein said immunogenic composition comprises: a) antigen component comprising at least 6 μg of FMD (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) virus per dose; b) an emulsion containing an oil; c) 75-200 μg of a CpG-containing immunostimulatory oligonucleotide per dose; d) 75-200 mg of a polycationic carrier per dose, and wherein further, upon suspected contact with FMD infection, the vaccinated members of said herd are not slaughtered and wherein the CpG containing immunostimulatory oligonucleotide comprises a 5′ TLR activation domain and at least two palindromic regions, one palindromic region being a 5′ palindromic region of at least 6 nucleotides in length and connected to a 3′ palindromic region of at least 8 nucleotides in length either directly or through a spacer.
2. A method of herd management, comprising administering to each member in said herd an immunogenic composition wherein said immunogenic composition comprises: a) antigen component comprising at least 6 μg of FMD (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) virus per dose; b) an emulsion containing an oil; c) 75-200 μg of a CpG-containing immunostimulatory oligonucleotide per dose; d) 75-200 mg of a polycationic carrier per dose, and wherein further, upon suspected contact with FMD infection, the vaccinated members of said herd are quarantined for 0-30 days.
3. A method of herd management, comprising administering to each member in said herd an immunogenic composition wherein said immunogenic composition comprises: a) antigen component comprising at least 6 μg of FMD (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) virus per dose; b) an emulsion containing an oil; c) 75-200 μg of a CpG-containing immunostimulatory oligonucleotide per dose; d) 75-200 mg of a polycationic carrier per dose, and wherein further, upon suspected contact with FMD infection, the vaccinated members of said herd are moved beyond the infected premises.
4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the vaccinated members of the herd are not slaughtered and are quarantined for 0-30 days.
