Abstract

Administration of certain chromium complexes in combination with a starch provide unexpected benefits regarding increasing amino acid absorption, protein synthesis, exercise tolerance, lean muscle mass, skeletal muscle hypertrophy, muscle power, muscle endurance, muscle strength, FSR, and decreasing delayed onset muscle soreness, muscle protein breakdown, and fat mass.

Claims (21)

- 62 . (canceled)

. A composition consisting essentially of chromium picolinate (CrPic), at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.001% (w/w) to about 3% (w/w) of chromium.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.01% (w/w) to about 1% (w/w) of chromium.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the composition comprises from about 10 μg to about 2,000 μg of chromium.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the composition comprises from about 50 μg and about 1800 μg of chromium.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the amino acid source is selected from whey protein, casein protein, egg protein, pea protein, rice protein, soy protein, beef protein, hemp protein, and vegetable protein, or a combination thereof.

. The composition of claim 64 , wherein the amino acid source is selected from whey protein, casein protein, egg protein, pea protein, rice protein, soy protein, beef protein, hemp protein, and vegetable protein, or a combination thereof.

. The composition of claim 66 , wherein the amino acid source is selected from whey protein, casein protein, egg protein, pea protein, rice protein, soy protein, beef protein, hemp protein, and vegetable protein, or a combination thereof.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the amino acid source is hydrolyzed.

. The composition of claim 64 , wherein the amino acid source is hydrolyzed.

. The composition of claim 66 , wherein the amino acid source is hydrolyzed.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the amount of the amino acid source in the composition is from about 1 g to about 30 g.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the amount of the amino acid source in the composition is from about 5 g to about 10 g.

. The composition of claim 63 , wherein the composition is a powder.

. A method for increasing muscle mass in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising CrPic, at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle to the subject.

. A method for treatment of muscle loss in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising CrPic, at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle to the subject.

. A method for increasing plasma levels of essential amino acids in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising CrPic, at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle to the subject.

. A method for increasing muscle uptake of branched chain amino acids in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising CrPic, at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle to the subject.

. A method of increasing a rate of muscle hypertrophy in a subject, comprising administering an effective amount of a composition comprising CrPic, at least one amino acid source, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle to the subject.
