Abstract

Provided is a system and method for creating a luggage manifest. The method includes: obtaining, by at least one processor, image data representative of at least one image of printed passenger information associated with an airline travel carrier on an originating hardcopy bag tag or a printed instrument including at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag to create a digital passenger information (DPI) data record linked to the airline travel carrier, wherein the originating hardcopy bag tag is issued for a checked-in luggage item of a passenger, and wherein the DPI data record includes an International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate number, a passenger name record (PNR) number, an airline code, an airline name, a name of the passenger, or any combination thereof; accessing, by the at least one processor, passenger return flight information from a computer system associated with the airline travel carrier, based on the DPI data record; and, checking in, by the at least one processor, the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof for a return flight with a designated return airline travel carrier associated with the accessed passenger return flight information.

Claims (117)

1. A method comprising:

a) obtaining, by at least of at least one processor, image data representative of at least one image of printed passenger information associated with an airline travel carrier on an originating hardcopy bag tag or a printed instrument comprising at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag to create a digital passenger information (DPI) data record linked to the airline travel carrier, wherein the originating hardcopy bag tag is issued for a checked-in luggage item of a passenger, and wherein the DPI data record comprises an International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate number, a passenger name record (PNR) number, an airline code, an airline name, a name of the passenger, or any combination thereof;

b) accessing, by at least one of the at least one processor, passenger return flight information from a computer system associated with the airline travel carrier, based on the DPI data record; and

c) checking in, by at least one of the at least one processor, the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof for a return flight with a designated return airline travel carrier associated with the accessed passenger return flight information.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the DPI data record comprises the PNR number.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises an airline code, an airline name, the name of the passenger, or any combination thereof.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises passenger related information or airline related information included on the originating hardcopy bag tag that links to the passenger return flight information stored in at least one memory of the computer system associated with the airline travel carrier.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the obtaining the image data comprises:

capturing, by an imaging device, the at least one image of the originating hardcopy bag tag or the printed instrument; and

communicating, by a communication device in electronic communication with the imaging device, the at least one image to a network interface coupled to the at least one processor.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing, by at least one of the at least one processor, image processing on the at least one image to optically recognize printed text of the printed passenger information associated with the airline travel carrier on the originating hardcopy bag tag and converting the printed text to searchable machine-encoded text sequences; and

creating, by at least one of the at least one processor, the DPI data record linked to the airline travel carrier from the searchable machine-encoded text sequences of the optically recognized printed text of the printed passenger information for the return flight with the designated return airline travel carrier.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the performing image processing further comprises:

optically recognizing text of the PNR number in the at least one image;

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the PNR number;

optically recognizing text of the name of the passenger in the at least one image; and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the name of the passenger.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the performing image processing further comprises:

optically recognizing text of the airline code or the airline name in the at least one image; and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the airline code or the airline name.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to step c):

d) autonomously creating, by at least one of the at least one processor, a passenger manifest record based on the DPI data record and the accessed passenger return flight information, wherein the passenger manifest record comprises data for check-in of a return leg of travel of the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof with the designated return airline travel carrier; and

e) repeating a)-b) and d) for a plurality of passengers beginning a stay associated with a lodging entity to autonomously form a manifest file.

10. The method of claim 9 ,

wherein during the checking in, the passenger is checked in; and

wherein the method further comprises, during the checking in:

obtaining boarding pass information for the return flight of the passenger; and

communicating, by the at least one processor, the boarding pass information to an electronic communication device of the passenger.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

merging lodging entity data from the lodging entity with the manifest file; and

forming a master manifest file with the manifest file and the lodging entity data, wherein the lodging entity data comprises a room number or cabin number of each passenger of the plurality of passengers.

12. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein during the checking in, the luggage item is checked in, and

wherein the method further comprises printing, by a printing device, a return leg travel IATA bag tag for the return flight for the checked in luggage item.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising, after step b) and prior to step c):

scanning a barcode of the IATA license plate number on the originating hardcopy bag tag;

and

accessing the passenger return flight information stored in one of a luggage manifest or a passenger manifest for use in step c).

14. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory, tangible memory communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, the at least one memory storing at least one instruction,

wherein the at least one processor is configured to execute the at least one instruction to:

a) obtain image data representative of at least one image of printed passenger information associated with an airline travel carrier on an originating hardcopy bag tag or a printed instrument comprising at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag to create a digital passenger information (DPI) data record linked to the airline travel carrier, wherein the originating hardcopy bag tag being issued for a checked-in luggage item of a passenger and the DPI data record comprises an International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate number, a passenger name record (PNR) number, an airline code, an airline name, a name of the passenger, or any combination thereof,

b) access passenger return flight information from a computer system associated with the airline travel carrier, based on the DPI data record, and

c) check in the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof for a return flight with a designated return airline travel carrier associated with the accessed passenger return flight information.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the DPI data record comprises the PNR number.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises an airline code, an airline name, and the name of the passenger, or any combination thereof.

The system of claim 14 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises passenger related information or airline related information included on the originating hardcopy bag tag that links to the passenger return flight information stored in at least one memory of the computer system associated with the airline travel carrier.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to:

obtain the image data by performing image processing on the at least one image to optically recognize printed text of the printed passenger information associated with the airline travel carrier on the originating hardcopy bag tag and convert the printed text to searchable machine-encoded text sequences, and

create the DPI data record linked to the airline travel carrier from the machine-encoded text sequences.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to perform image processing by:

optically recognizing text of the PNR number in the at least one image,

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the PNR number,

optically recognizing text of the name of the passenger in the at least one image, and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the name of the passenger.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to perform image processing by:

optically recognizing text of the airline code or the airline name in the at least one image, and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the airline code or the airline name.

21. The system of claim 14 , wherein the wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to, prior to check in of the luggage item or the passenger:

d) autonomously create a passenger manifest record based on the DPI data record and the accessed passenger return flight information, wherein the passenger manifest record comprises data for check-in of a return leg of travel of the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof with a designated return travel carrier, and

e) repeat a)-b) and d) for a plurality of passengers beginning a stay associated with a lodging entity to autonomously form a manifest file.

22. The system of claim 21 ,

wherein during the check in, the passenger is checked in, and

wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to:

check-in the passenger for the return flight with the designated return travel carrier,

obtain boarding pass information for the return flight of the passenger, and

communicate the boarding pass information to an electronic communication device of the passenger.

23. The system of claim 21 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to:

merge lodging entity data from the lodging entity with the manifest file, and

form a master manifest file based on the manifest file and the lodging entity data, wherein the lodging entity data comprises a room number or cabin number of each passenger of the plurality of passengers.

24. The system of claim 14 , further comprising a printing device,

wherein during c) the check in, the luggage item is checked in, and

wherein the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to:

cause the printing device to print a return leg travel IATA bag tag for the return flight for the checked in luggage item.

25. The system of claim 14 , the at least one processor is further configured to execute the at least one instruction to, prior to b) and before c):

scan a barcode of the IATA license plate number on the originating hardcopy bag tag, wherein the printed instrument comprises at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag, or a created marker with the IATA license plate number associated with the originating hardcopy bag tag, and

access the passenger return flight information stored in one of a luggage manifest or a passenger manifest for use in c).

26. A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored therein, which when executed by at least one processor cause the at least one processor to execute a method comprising:

a) obtaining, by at least one of the at least one processor, image data representative of at least one image of printed passenger information associated with an airline travel carrier on an originating hardcopy bag tag or a printed instrument comprising at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag to create a digital passenger information (DPI) data record linked to the airline travel carrier, wherein the originating hardcopy bag tag is issued for a checked-in luggage item of a passenger, and wherein the DPI data record comprises an International Air Transport Association (IATA) license plate number, a passenger name record (PNR) number, an airline code, an airline name, or a name of the passenger, or any combination thereof;

b) accessing, by at least one of the at least one processor, passenger return flight information from a computer system associated with the airline travel carrier, based on the DPI data record; and

c) checking in, by at least one of the at least one processor, the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof for a return flight with a designated return airline travel carrier associated with the accessed passenger return flight information.

27. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the DPI data record comprises the PNR number.

28. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises an airline code, an airline name, and the name of the passenger.

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the DPI data record further comprises passenger related information or airline related information included on the originating hardcopy bag tag that links to the passenger return flight information stored in at least one memory of the computer system associated with the airline travel carrier.

30. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the obtaining the image data comprises:

capturing, by an imaging device, the at least one image of the originating hardcopy bag tag or the printed instrument; and

communicating, by a communication device in electronic communication with the imaging device, the at least one image to a network interface coupled to the at least one processor.

31. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the method further comprises:

performing, by at least one of the at least one processor, image processing on the at least one image to optically recognize printed text of the printed passenger information associated with the airline travel carrier on the originating hardcopy bag tag and converting the printed text to searchable machine-encoded text sequences; and

creating, by at least one of the at least one processor, the DPI data record linked to the airline travel carrier from the searchable machine-encoded text sequences for the return flight with the designated return airline travel carrier.

32. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 31 , wherein the performing image processing further comprises:

optically recognizing text of the PNR number in the at least one image;

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the PNR number;

optically recognizing text of the name of the passenger in the at least one image; and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the name of the passenger.

33. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 31 , wherein the performing image processing further comprises:

optically recognizing text of the airline code or the airline name in the at least one image; and

forming a machine-encoded text sequence of the airline code or the airline name.

34. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the method further comprises, prior to step c):

d) autonomously creating, by at least one of the at least one processor, a passenger manifest record based on the DPI data record and the accessed passenger return flight information, wherein the passenger manifest record comprises data for check-in of a return leg of travel of the luggage item, the passenger, or a combination thereof with the designated return airline travel carrier; and

e) repeating a)-b) and d) for a plurality of passengers beginning a stay associated with a lodging entity to autonomously form a manifest file.

35. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 34 ,

wherein during the checking in, the passenger is checked in; and

wherein the method further comprises, during the checking in:

obtaining boarding pass information for the return flight of the passenger; and

communicating, by at least one of the at least one processor, the boarding pass information to an electronic communication device of the passenger.

36. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 34 , wherein the method further comprises:

merging lodging entity data from the lodging entity with the manifest file; and

forming a master manifest file with the manifest file and the lodging entity data, wherein the lodging entity data comprises a room number or cabin number of each passenger of the plurality of passengers.

37. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 26 ,

wherein during the checking in, the luggage item is checked in, and

wherein the method further comprises printing, by a printing device, a return leg travel IATA bag tag for the return flight for the checked in luggage item.

38. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 37 , wherein the method further comprises, after step b) and prior to step c):

scanning a barcode of the IATA license plate number on the originating hardcopy bag tag, wherein the printed instrument comprises at least a portion of the passenger information on the originating hardcopy bag tag, or a created marker with the IATA license plate number associated with the originating hardcopy bag tag; and

accessing the passenger return flight information stored in one of a luggage manifest or a passenger manifest for use in step c).
