Abstract

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for performing adaptive resolution change during video encoding and decoding. The methods include: comparing resolutions of a target picture and a first reference picture; in response to the target picture and the first reference picture having different resolutions, resampling the first reference picture to generate a second reference picture; and encoding or decoding the target picture using the second reference picture.

Claims (27)

1 . A video decoding method, comprising:

determining a coded resolution of a target picture; and

decoding the target picture based on the coded resolution;

wherein determining the coded resolution of the target picture comprises:

decoding a first parameter in a sequence parameter set (SPS), the first parameter indicating a maximum resolution of a video sequence associated with the SPS;

decoding a first flag indicating whether the coded resolution is equal to the maximum resolution; and

decoding a second parameter in a picture parameter set (PPS), the second parameter indicating the coded resolution of the target picture, wherein a value of the second parameter is set to be equal to the maximum resolution when the first flag indicates that the coded resolution is equal to the maximum resolution, and the value of the second parameter is set to be lower than the maximum resolution when the first flag indicates that the coded resolution is different from the maximum resolution.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of at least one of a width or a height of one or more pictures associated with the PPS.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of a difference between the coded resolution and the maximum resolution.

4 . A video encoding method, comprising:

encoding a target picture based on a coded resolution;

encoding a first parameter in a sequence parameter set (SPS), the first parameter indicating a maximum resolution of a video sequence associated with the SPS;

encoding a first flag indicating whether the coded resolution is equal to the maximum resolution; and

encoding a second parameter in a picture parameter set (PPS), the second parameter indicating the coded resolution of the target picture, wherein encoding the second parameter comprises:

in response to the first flag indicating that the coded resolution is equal to the maximum resolution, setting a value of the second parameter to be equal to the maximum resolution, or

in response to the first flag indicating that the coded resolution is different from the maximum resolution, setting the value of the second parameter to be lower than the maximum resolution.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of at least one a width or a height of one or more pictures.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of a difference between the coded resolution and the maximum resolution.

7 . A method of transmitting a bitstream associated with a video sequence, the method comprising:

generating a sequence parameter set (SPS) associated with the video sequence, the SPS comprising a first parameter indicating a maximum resolution of the video sequence;

generating a first flag indicating whether a coded resolution of a target picture is equal to the maximum resolution;

generating a picture parameter set (PPS) associated with the target picture, the PPS comprising a second parameter indicating the coded resolution of the target picture, wherein generating the PPS comprises:

in response to the first flag indicating that the coded resolution is equal to the maximum resolution, setting a value of the second parameter to be equal to the maximum resolution, or

in response to the first flag indicating that the coded resolution is different from the maximum resolution, setting the value of the second parameter to be lower than the maximum resolution; and

transmitting a bitstream comprising the generated SPS, PPS, and first flag.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of at least one a width or a height of one or more pictures.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the second parameter is indicative of a difference between the coded resolution and the maximum resolution.
