Abstract

A spinal interbody device (IBD) includes a solid wall that at least partially defines a boundary of the IBD and a porous body connected to the solid wall. The porous body includes a plurality of sections that form at least a portion of both a superior and inferior bone interface side of the IBD. Each section of the porous body has a different porosity than an adjacent section such that the porosities increase toward a center of the IBD.

Claims (28)

1. A spinal interbody device (IBD), comprising:

solid and porous structures in connection with each other; and

a plurality of pyramidal bone-engaging projections having a flat upper surface on the solid structure, the projections including partially solid and partially porous portions, the partially solid portions and partially porous portions formed monolithically with each other.

2. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the solid structure is a wall at least partially defining a boundary of the IBD.

3. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the solid structure comprises a plurality of rods from a first edge of a top surface of the IBD to a second edge of the top surface of the IBD.

4. The IBD of claim 3 , wherein the projections are connected to the plurality of rods.

5. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the solid structure comprises a plurality of rods from a first edge of a bottom surface of the IBD to a second edge of the bottom surface of the IBD.

6. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the porous structure has a porosity of 55-65%.

7. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the porous structure has a porosity of 60%.

8. The IBD of claim 1 , further comprising a graft window extending from a superior side of the IBD to an inferior side of the IBD.

9. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein an upper surface and a lower surface of the IBD converge towards each other from a trailing end to a leading end.

10. The IBD of claim 1 , wherein the solid structure comprises an engagement opening configured to receive an insertion instrument.

11. A spinal interbody device (IBD), comprising:

at least one solid structure;

at least one porous structure, the solid and porous structures being formed integrally with each other;

a plurality of pyramidal bone-engaging projections having a flat upper surface on the solid structure, the projections including partially solid portions and partially porous portions, the partially solid portions and partially porous portions formed monolithically with each other; and

a graft window extending from a superior side of the IBD to an inferior side of the IBD.

12. The IBD of claim 11 , wherein the solid structure comprises a plurality of rods from a first edge of a top surface of the IBD to a second edge of the top surface of the IBD.

13. The IBD of claim 12 , wherein the projections are connected to the plurality of rods.

14. The IBD of claim 11 , wherein the solid structure comprises a plurality of rods from a first edge of a bottom surface of the IBD to a second edge of the bottom surface of the IBD.

15. The IBD of claim 11 , wherein the porous structure has a porosity of 55-65%.

16. A spinal interbody device (IBD), comprising:

a solid structure comprising a plurality of rods from a first edge of a top surface of the IBD to a second edge of the top surface of the IBD;

a porous structure connected to the solid structure; and

a plurality of pyramidal bone-engaging projections having a flat upper surface on the solid structure, the projections including partially solid portions and partially porous portions, the partially solid portions and partially porous portions formed monolithically with each other.

17. The IBD of claim 16 , further comprising a graft window extending from a superior side of the IBD to an inferior side of the IBD.

18. The IBD of claim 16 , wherein the porous structure has a porosity of 55-65%.

19. The IBD of claim 16 , wherein the porous structure has a porosity of 60%.
