. The method of claim 68 , wherein the compound is ((2R,5S)-5-{2-[(1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1H-imidazo[4,5-d]thieno[3,2-b]pyridin-1-yl}tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)acetonitrile hydrate.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the compound is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of ((2R,5S)-5-{2-[(1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1H-imidazo[4,5-d]thieno[3,2-b]pyridin-1-yl}tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)acetonitrile.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is Epstein Barr Virus (EBV).

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is Hepatitis B.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is Hepatitis C.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is HIV.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is HTLV 1.

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV).

. The method of claim 68 , wherein the viral disease is Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

. The method of claim 68 , wherein ameliorating or inhibiting a viral disease in a patient further comprises administering to said patient at least one additional pharmaceutical agent.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is a chemotherapeutic.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is an anti-inflammatory agent.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is a steroid.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is an immunosuppressant.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is administered simultaneously.

. The method of claim 78 , wherein at least one of the additional pharmaceutical agents is administered sequentially.

. A method of ameliorating or inhibiting a viral disease in a patient, comprising administering to said patient a compound, which is a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of ((2R,5S)-5-{2-[(1R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1H-imidazo[4,5-d]thieno[3,2-b]pyridin-1-yl}tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)acetonitrile.
