Abstract

A display device includes: a display panel with pixels; a dimming panel with dimming pixels; and a light source. When a pixel is controlled to be lit in white and a predetermined condition is satisfied, a blurring region is formed, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring region and the pixel. When a pixel is controlled to be lit up in white and the predetermined condition is not satisfied, the blurring region is not formed, the dimming pixel overlapping the pixel on a straight line along a direction in which the display panel faces the dimming panel is controlled to transmit light, and light from the light source is transmitted through the dimming pixel and the pixel. The predetermined condition is satisfied when the pixel controlled to be lit in white is at a predetermined distance or farther from an outer edge of a display area.

Claims (46)

1. A display device comprising:

a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels;

a dimming panel that is disposed so as to face the display panel on one surface side of the display panel and comprises a plurality of dimming pixels;

a light source configured to emit light that travels from the dimming panel toward the display panel; and

an imaging device with an imaging region in which a space facing the display panel is included, wherein

in controlling the pixels in accordance with an input image signal such that at least one of the pixels is lit up in white,

when a point of view of a user is identified as being within a predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels based on an image captured by the imaging device, a blurring process is applied such that more than one of the dimming pixels transmit light, a blurring region is formed that is a region including the dimming pixels to which the blurring process is applied, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring region and the at least one of the pixels and emitted to another surface side of the display panel, and

when the point of view of the user is identified as not being within the predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels, the blurring process is not applied, and

when the blurring process is applied,

in the blurring region, a center dimming pixel is located at coordinates of a center position of the blurring region, and a plurality of dimming pixels are located at respective distances from the center position,

as a distance between the center position and a respective dimming pixel in the blurring region increases, a light transmission degree of the respective dimming pixel decreases.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one of the pixels is disposed within a predetermined distance from a border between a display area of the display panel and a frame area of the display panel.

3. The display device according to claim 2 , wherein the at least one of the pixels is disposed adjacent to the border between the display area of the display panel and the frame area of the display panel.

4. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein the point of view of the user is identified as being within the predetermined region when the point of view of the user is within the imaging region of the imaging device.

5. The display device according to claim 4 , wherein the at least one of the pixels is disposed within a predetermined distance from a border between a display area of the display panel and a frame area of the display panel.

6. The display device according to claim 5 , wherein the at least one of the pixels is disposed adjacent to the border between the display area of the display panel and the frame area of the display panel.

7. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the display panel receives a signal obtained by applying a first gamma correction to the input image signal, and

the dimming panel receives a signal obtained by applying a second gamma correction different from the first gamma correction to a signal obtained by applying the blurring process to the input image signal.

8. A display device comprising:

a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels;

a dimming panel that is disposed so as to face the display panel on one surface side of the display panel and comprises a plurality of dimming pixels;

a light source configured to emit light that travels from the dimming panel toward the display panel; and

an imaging device with an imaging region in which a space facing the display panel is included, wherein

in controlling the pixels in accordance with an input image signal such that at least one of the pixels is lit up in white,

when a point of view of a user is identified as being within a predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels based on an image captured by the imaging device, a blurring process is applied such that more than one of the dimming pixels transmit light, a blurring region is formed that is a region including the dimming pixels to which the blurring process is applied, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring region and the at least one of the pixels and emitted to another surface side of the display panel, and

when the point of view of the user is identified as not being within the predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels, the blurring process is not applied, wherein

the at least one of the pixels is disposed within a predetermined distance from a border between a display area of the display panel and a frame area of the display panel.

9. The display device according to claim 8 , wherein the at least one of the pixels is disposed adjacent to the border between the display area of the display panel and the frame area of the display panel.

10. The display device according to claim 8 , wherein

the display panel receives a signal obtained by applying a first gamma correction to the input image signal, and

the dimming panel receives a signal obtained by applying a second gamma correction different from the first gamma correction to a signal obtained by applying the blurring process to the input image signal.

11. A display device comprising:

a display panel comprising a plurality of pixels;

a dimming panel that is disposed so as to face the display panel on one surface side of the display panel and comprises a plurality of dimming pixels;

a light source configured to emit light that travels from the dimming panel toward the display panel; and

an imaging device with an imaging region in which a space facing the display panel is included, wherein

in controlling the pixels in accordance with an input image signal such that at least one of the pixels is lit up in white,

when a point of view of a user is identified as being within a predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels based on an image captured by the imaging device, a blurring process is applied such that more than one of the dimming pixels transmit light, a blurring region is formed that is a region including the dimming pixels to which the blurring process is applied, and light from the light source is transmitted through the blurring region and the at least one of the pixels and emitted to another surface side of the display panel, and

when the point of view of the user is identified as not being within the predetermined region with respect to the at least one of the pixels, the blurring process is not applied, wherein

the point of view of the user is identified as being within the predetermined region when the point of view of the user is within the imaging region of the imaging device, and
