SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING COMPUTER DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS BASED ON PUPIL DILATION
Aspects of the present inventions relate to regulation of display brightness for head worn computer display systems. In embodiments, a display's maximum brightness may be regulated by monitoring pupil size.
1 . An augmented reality head worn display, comprising:
a see-through computer display through which a user views a surrounding environment and upon which the user views digital content;
a measurement system configured to monitor a size of the user's pupil;
a brightness control system configured to increase and decrease brightness of the digital content; and
a processor configured to regulate the brightness of the digital content in relation to the size of a user's pupil.
2 . The augmented reality head worn display of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to increase the brightness of the digital content until the user's pupil dilates.
3 . The augmented reality head worn display of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to increase the brightness of the digital content until the dilation of the user's pupil indicates that further increasing the brightness of the digital content would decrease the user's perception of the surrounding environment's brightness.
4 . An augmented reality head worn display, comprising:
a see-through computer display through which a user views a surrounding environment and upon which the user views digital content;
an environment brightness measuring system configured to measure brightness of the surrounding environment;
a brightness control system configured to increase and decrease brightness of the digital content; and
a processor configured to increase the brightness of the digital content in relation to the brightness of the environment until the brightness of the digital content reaches a multiple of the brightness of the surrounding environment.
5 . The augmented reality head worn display of claim 4 , wherein the multiple is approximately 1.5.
