Abstract

A veneer for a wall-mounted keypad may include indicia that are laser cut therethrough and that are representative of functions that may be performed by the keypad. The veneer may include a recess that extends into an inner surface of the veneer, proximate to the indicia. The recess may be shaped such that a perceived aesthetic of an outer surface of the veneer is preserved during formation of the indicia. The recess may for example have an organic shape defined by a curved outer perimeter that does not define any corners.

Claims (26)

1 . A wallbox mountable electric device controller, comprising:

one or more actuatable devices;

a faceplate that includes:

a planar member having a first portion with a first thickness and a second portion, at least partially surrounded by the first portion having a second thickness less than the first thickness; and

one or more indicia formed through the second portion of the faceplate, each of the one or more indicia formed proximate a respective one of the one or more actuatable devices; and

a housing that includes:

one or more light sources; and

a light guide layer disposed between the one or more light sources and the second portion of the faceplate such that the one or more light sources backlight the one or more indicia formed in the faceplate.

2 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the planar member comprises a metallic material.

3 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the planar member comprises a metallic layer laminated to a translucent non-metallic material.

4 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of an external edge of the planar member is downturned, extending from the rear surface of the planar member.

5 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the faceplate includes at least one aperture formed through the first portion of the faceplate, the at least one aperture to accommodate passage of at least a portion of the one or more actuatable devices therethrough.

6 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 5 wherein the at least one aperture comprises a slot formed through the first portion of the faceplate.

The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 5 wherein the at least one aperture comprises a plurality of apertures, each of the plurality of apertures extending through the first portion of the faceplate, wherein each of the plurality of apertures to accommodate the passage of at least one of the one or more actuatable devices.

8 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 , wherein the housing further comprises at least one electrical status indicator device; and

Wherein the faceplate includes at one aperture such that the at least one electrical status indicator device is externally visible.

9 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the second portion of the faceplate comprises a square edge recess formed in a rear surface of the planar member.

10 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the second portion of the faceplate comprises a chamfered edge recess formed in the rear surface of the planar member.

11 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the second portion of the faceplate comprises a radiused edge recess formed in the rear surface of the planar member.

12 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 wherein the second portion of the faceplate comprises a second thickness that is 50% or less than a first thickness of the first portion of the faceplate.

The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 1 further comprising an adapter member disposable between the housing and the faceplate, the adapter member comprising a plurality of apertures, each of the plurality of apertures to permit the passage of a respective one of a plurality of fasteners to couple the adapter member to the housing.

14 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 13 wherein the faceplate further comprises:

a plurality of faceplate attachment features disposed on a rear surface of the planar member.

15 . The wallbox mountable electric device controller of claim 14 wherein the adapter member further comprises:

a plurality of adapter attachment features, each of the plurality of adapter attachment features complimentary to a respective one of the plurality of faceplate attachment features;

each of the plurality of attachment features to couple the faceplate to the adapter member without any of the fasteners externally visible when the faceplate is coupled to the adapter member.
