Abstract

The present disclosure provides methods, systems, compositions, and kits to address the need for microbiome-related treatment of health conditions and disease. The present disclosure provides for treatment of metabolic conditions using microbial compositions.

Claims (22)

1 . A composition comprising:

a) a first microbe comprising a 16S rRNA sequence comprising at least 97% sequence identity to a 16S rRNA sequence of Clostridium beijerinckii ; and

b) a second microbe comprising a 16S rRNA sequence comprising at least 97% sequence identity to a 16S rRNA sequence of Akkermansia muciniphila

wherein, the composition:

comprises a prebiotic;

comprises an effective amount of a preservative; and/or

the first microbe, and/or the second microbe is/are lyophilized.

2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is suitable for oral administration.

3 . The composition of claim 2 , wherein the composition is in the form of a capsule.

4 . The composition of claim 2 , wherein the composition is in the form of a tablet.

5 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the prebiotic is chosen from complex carbohydrates, complex sugars, resistant dextrins, resistant starch, amino acids, peptides, nutritional compounds, biotin, polydextrose, fructooligosaccharide (FOS), galactooligosaccharides (GOS), inulin, starch, lignin, psyllium, chitin, chitosan, gums, guar gum, high amylose cornstarch (HAS), cellulose, β-glucans, hemi-celluloses, lactulose, mannooligosaccharides, mannan oligosaccharides (MOS), oligofructose-enriched inulin, oligofructose, oligodextrose, tagatose, trans-galactooligosaccharide, pectin, resistant starch, xylooligosaccharides (XOS), and any combination thereof.

6 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the prebiotic comprises inulin.

7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises at least 1×10{circumflex over ( )}5 CFUs of the first microbe and/or the second microbe.

8 . A method comprising administering the composition of claim 1 to a human subject.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the method increases glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) production in the subject.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the method reduces the subject's appetite.

11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition is orally administered to the subject.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the composition is in the form of a capsule.

13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises a prebiotic.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the prebiotic comprises inulin.

15 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the first microbe, and/or the second microbe is/are lyophilized.

16 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the composition comprises at least 1×10{circumflex over ( )}5 CFUs of the first microbe and/or the second microbe.
