Abstract

An apparatus comprises at least one input optical connector on a front of a module for a panel. Two or more output optical connectors are located on the front of the module of the panel. A slack storage cassette secures optical fibers between the at least one input optical connector and the two or more output optical connectors.

Claims (38)

1 . An apparatus comprising:

at least one input optical connector on a front of a module for a panel;

two or more output optical connectors on the front of the module of the panel; and

a slack storage cassette configured to secure optical fibers between the at least one input optical connector and the two or more output optical connectors.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the input optical connector and each of the output optical connectors is a female connector configured to receive a male connector with an optical fiber.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the optical connectors are standardized connectors selected from the group consisting of standard connectors (SC), Lucent connectors (LC), and Multi-fiber Termination Push-on connectors (MTP).

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

an input splice sleeve between at least one input optical connector and a splitter; and

two or more output splice sleeves between the splitter and the two or more output optical connectors.

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the splitter is configured to divide an incoming optical signal into multiple output signals.

6 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the splitter is a passive optical device that does not require power to operate.

7 . The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

at least one input splice sleeve between at least one input optical connector and an optical tap; and

at least one output splice sleeve between the optical tap and at least one output optical connector.

8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the optical tap is configured to split off a portion of the optical signal.

9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the slack storage cassette includes a curved internal surface to reduce bending or twisting of the optical fibers.

10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a housing that encloses the input optical connector, the output optical connectors, and the slack storage cassette.

11 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the module is configured to fit into a standardized telecommunications panel with a 1 U height, and having an aspect ratio on the front face where height divided by the width is greater than 1.1.

12 . An optical fiber management device for telecommunications networks, comprising:

a panel;

a plurality of modules, where in each module comprises:

at least one input optical connector on a front of a module for a panel;

two or more output optical connectors on the front of the module of the panel; and

a slack storage cassette configured to secure optical fibers between the at least one input optical connector and the two or more output optical connectors.

13 . The optical fiber management device of claim 12 further comprising:

an input splice sleeve between at least one input optical connector and a splitter; and

two or more output splice sleeves between the splitter and the two or more output optical connectors.

14 . The optical fiber management device of claim 13 , wherein the splitter is configured to divide an incoming optical signal into multiple.

15 . The optical fiber management device of claim 13 , wherein the splitter is a passive optical device that does not require power to operate.

16 . The optical fiber management device of claim 12 further comprising:

at least one input splice sleeve between at least one input optical connector and an optical tap; and

at least one output splice sleeve between the optical tap and at least one output optical connector.

17 . The optical fiber management device of claim 16 , wherein the optical tap is configured to split off a portion of the optical signal.

18 . The optical fiber management device of claim 12 , wherein the slack storage cassette includes a curved internal surface to reduce bending or twisting of the optical fibers.

19 . The optical fiber management device of claim 12 , wherein the input optical connector and each of the output optical connectors is a female connector configured to receive a male connector with an optical fiber; and

wherein the optical connectors are standardized connectors selected from the group consisting of standard connectors (SC), Lucent connectors (LC), and Multi-fiber Termination Push-on connectors (MTP).

20 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a housing that encloses the input optical connector, the output optical connectors, and the slack storage cassette; and

wherein the module is configured to fit into a standardized telecommunications panel with a 1 U height, and having an aspect ratio on the front face where height divided by the width is greater than 1.1.
