Conspicuity Devices and Methods
The disclosure provides conspicuity devices and methods. A first embodiment includes a glove with at least one elongate lighting device adapted and configured to admit light having an advantageous spectral energy distribution. Additional articles of clothing are provided herein for enhanced conspicuity, such as for emergency workers and athletes.
.- 3 . (canceled)
. A method of making a conspicuity device, comprising:
a) providing an elongate electroluminescent element; and
b) bonding a plurality of layers of material to each other to define an encasement having an elongate compartment for receiving the elongate electroluminescent element.
. The method of claim 4 , further comprising attaching the encasement to a piece of base material.
. The method of claim 5 , wherein the piece of base material includes elastic material.
. The method of claim 5 , wherein the piece of base material is fire resistant.
. The method of claim 5 , wherein the piece of base material is selected from the group consisting of (i) elongate webbing material and (ii) an article of clothing.
. The method of claim 8 , wherein the article of clothing is selected from the group consisting of (i) a jacket, (ii) a shirt, (iii) a pair of trousers, (iv) footwear and (v) headgear.
. The method of claim 4 , wherein the encasement includes retroreflective material.
. The method of claim 10 , wherein the retroreflective material is photoluminescent.
. A method of providing improved conspicuity in an environment rendered opaque by smoke, comprising: a) providing an illuminative device to an object to be given conspicuity, and b) causing the illuminative device to emit light having a wavelength equal to or shorter than about 550 nm.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein the light emitted by the illuminative device has a wavelength equal to or shorter than about 510 nm.
. The method of claim 13 , wherein the light emitted by the illuminative device has a wavelength equal to or shorter than about 475 nm.
. The method of claim 14 , wherein the light emitted by the illuminative device has a wavelength equal to or shorter than about 445 nm.
. The method of claim 15 , wherein the light emitted by the illuminative device has a wavelength equal to or shorter than about 400 nm.
. The method of claim 12 , wherein the illuminative device includes a laser.
. The method of claim 14 , wherein the illuminative device includes a lamp having an electroluminescent element.
. A flashlight including: a) a direct current power source; b) a lamp operably coupled to the power source; and c) an electrical inverter operably coupled to the power source for converting direct current to alternating current.
. The flashlight of claim 19 , further comprising an electrical port operably coupled to the electrical inverter for supplying alternating current.
