Abstract

Medical techniques include systems and methods for administering a positive pressure ventilation, a positive end expiratory pressure, and a vacuum to a person. Approaches also include treating a person with an intrathoracic pressure regulator so as to modulate or upregulate the autonomic system of the person, and treating a person with a combination of an intrathoracic pressure regulation treatment and an intra-aortic balloon pump treatment.

Claims (37)

1 . (canceled)

2 . A ventilation system for providing ventilation to a patient, the system comprising:

a patient port configured to fluidly communicate with the patient;

at least one valve configured for controlling gas flow through the patient port to the patient during administration of a positive pressure ventilation procedure; and

a user interface configured to allow a user to choose between a first operating mode and a second operating mode,

wherein, in the first operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are automatically set based at least in part on a user selection corresponding to an adult patient or a pediatric patient,

and wherein, in the second operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are determined based at least in part on input of a patient-specific parameter value.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein, in the first operating mode,

respiratory rate and tidal volume are automatically set based at least in part on patient height associated with the user selection corresponding to an adult patient or a pediatric patient.

4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein, in the first operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are automatically set based at least in part on a height chart.

5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user interface comprises one or more selectable display items associated with patient height.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more selectable display items associated with patient height are associated with a specific height range.

7 . The system of claim 2 , wherein, in the first operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are automatically set based at least in part on a calculated bodyweight.

8 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with the user selection corresponding to an adult or pediatric patient.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with an adult patient.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with a non-adult patient.

11 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the patient-specific parameter value comprises a treatment system parameter value.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the treatment system parameter value comprises respiratory rate or tidal volume.

13 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user interface comprises a user-selectable display item that is selectable to start ventilation of the patient.

14 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user interface comprises a touchscreen of a display.

15 . A ventilation system for providing ventilation to a patient, the system comprising:

a patient port configured to fluidly communicate with the patient;

at least one valve configured for controlling gas flow through the patient port to the patient during administration of a positive pressure ventilation procedure; and

a user interface configured to allow at least one selection relating to a first operating mode and configured to allow at least one selection relating to a second operating mode,

wherein, in the first operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are established based at least in part on a user selection corresponding to an adult patient or a pediatric patient,

and wherein, in the second operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are determined based on input of a patient-specific parameter value.

16 . The system of claim 15 wherein, in the first operating mode,

respiratory rate and tidal volume are established based at least in part on patient height associated with the user selection corresponding to an adult patient or a pediatric patient.

17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein respiratory rate and tidal volume are established based at least in part on a height chart.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the user interface comprises one or more display items associated with patient height.

19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein, in the first operating mode, respiratory rate and tidal volume are established based at least in part on a calculated bodyweight.

20 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with the user selection corresponding to an adult or pediatric patient.

21 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with an adult patient.

22 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the user interface comprises at least one display item associated with a non-adult patient.

23 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the patient-specific parameter value comprises a treatment system parameter value.

24 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the treatment system parameter value comprises respiratory rate or tidal volume.

25 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the user interface comprises a user-selectable display item that is selectable to start the ventilation of the patient.
