Methods and systems for recommending content restrictions
Systems and methods are described herein for recommending content restrictions to a user based on chatter in a social network of the user. The system analyzes chatter in the social network to identify a correlation between what is posted by users and the content that the users are posting about. The system stores a mapping between chatter and expected attributes of the content referenced by the chatter. The system will determine whether to block the content when an expected attribute is associated with a content restriction.
1. A method comprising:
receiving, from a social network, social media posts associated with a first user;
identifying indications associated with media characteristics;
mapping the indications to the media characteristics; and
generating instructions for display, at a user equipment device, recommended content restrictions based on the mapped indications and media characteristics.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
receiving social media posts includes receiving posts from users associated with a child of the first user.
3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:
storing mappings between indications and media characteristics in a database.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
identifying indications associated with media characteristics includes determining a frequency of indications associated with media characteristics.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions are further based on the age of the first user.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions comprise blocking media associated with specific indications.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein:
the specific indications include at least one of violence, sexuality, obscenity, language, or substance abuse.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions are further based on a location of the user equipment device.
9. A method comprising:
monitoring social media posts of users in a social network associated with a first user;
identifying a second user posting, at a threshold frequency, specific words indicating media characteristics;
determining media associated with the posts; and
recommending content restrictions to the first user based on the determined media.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein:
the specific words are associated with content that is sexually explicit, obscene, or violent.
11. The method of claim 9 further comprising:
notifying the first user of instances when the second user posts specific words.
12. The method of claim 9 , wherein:
recommending content restrictions includes suggesting blocks of media associated with specific indications.
13. The method of claim 9 , wherein:
recommending content restrictions to the first user is further based on an age of the first user.
14. A system comprising:
processing circuitry configured to:
receive, from a social network, social media posts associated with a first user;
identify indications associated with media characteristics;
map the indications to the media characteristics; and
generate instructions for display, at a user equipment device, recommended content restrictions based on the mapped indications and media characteristics.
15. The system of claim 14 , wherein:
receiving social media posts includes receiving posts from users associated with a child of the first user.
16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to:
store mappings between indications and media characteristics in a database.
17. The system of claim 14 , wherein:
identifying indications associated with media characteristics includes determining the frequency of indications associated with media characteristics.
18. The system of claim 14 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions are further based on the age of the first user.
19. The system of claim 14 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions comprise blocking media associated with specific indications.
20. The system of claim 14 , wherein:
the recommended content restrictions are further based on a location of the user equipment device.
