Abstract

A system for performing an endoscopic surgical procedure in a surgical cavity of a patient that includes a multi-lumen tube set including a dual lumen portion having a pressurized gas line and a return gas line for facilitating gas recirculation relative to the surgical cavity of the patient, and a single lumen portion having a gas supply and sensing line for delivering insufflation gas to the surgical cavity of the patient and for periodically sensing pressure within the surgical cavity of the patient, a first gas sealed single lumen access port communicating with the dual lumen portion of the tube set and a second valve sealed single lumen access port communicating with the single lumen portion of the tube set.

Claims (20)

1 - 32 . (canceled)

33 . A surgical access port system comprising:

a) a reusable single lumen tubular body portion;

b) a valve sealed housing portion adapted and configured for detachable engagement with the single lumen tubular body portion to form a valve sealed access port; and

c) a gas sealed housing portion adapted and configured for detachable engagement with the single lumen tubular body portion to form a gas sealed access port.

34 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the gas sealed housing portion includes a manifold defining a gas inlet path and a gas outlet path, and wherein the gas inlet path and the gas outlet path of the manifold are concentrically arranged within the manifold.

35 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the valve sealed housing portion includes a gas inlet path in the form of a luer type fitting.

36 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the gas sealed housing portion includes diametrically opposed spring biased latches for detachably engaging an upper reception portion of the single lumen tubular body portion.

37 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the valve sealed housing portion includes diametrically opposed spring biased latches for detachably engaging an upper reception portion of the single lumen tubular body portion.

38 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the gas sealed housing portion houses an annular jet assembly that includes an upper jet ring having a nozzle tube and a lower jet ring defining a nozzle seat for receiving the nozzle tube of the upper jet ring, wherein the annular jet assembly is configured to generate a gaseous sealing zone within a central bore of the single lumen tubular body portion.

39 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 33 , wherein the valve sealed housing portion houses mechanical duckbill valve.

40 . A surgical access port system comprising:

a) a reusable single lumen tubular body portion having an upper reception portion;

b) a valve sealed housing portion adapted and configured for detachable engagement with the upper reception portion of the single lumen tubular body portion to form a valve sealed access port, wherein the valve sealed housing portion accommodates a duckbill valve; and

c) a gas sealed housing portion adapted and configured for detachable engagement with the upper reception portion single lumen tubular body portion to form a gas sealed access port, wherein the gas sealed housing portion accommodates an annular jet assembly configured to generate a gaseous sealing zone within a central bore of the single lumen tubular body portion.

41 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 40 , wherein the gas sealed housing portion includes a manifold defining a gas inlet path and a gas outlet path, and wherein the gas inlet path and the gas outlet path of the manifold are concentrically arranged within the manifold.

42 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 40 , wherein the valve sealed housing portion includes a gas inlet path in the form of a luer type fitting.

43 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 40 , wherein the gas sealed housing portion includes diametrically opposed spring biased latches for detachably engaging the upper reception portion of the single lumen tubular body portion.

44 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 40 , wherein the valve sealed housing portion includes diametrically opposed spring biased latches for detachably engaging the upper reception portion of the single lumen tubular body portion.

45 . A surgical access port system as recited in claim 40 , wherein the annular jet assembly includes an upper jet ring having a nozzle tube and a lower jet ring defining a nozzle seat for receiving the nozzle tube of the upper jet ring.
