Abstract

Devices and techniques are disclosed herein for more efficiently exchanging large amounts of data between a host and a storage system. In an example, a read command can optionally include a read-type indicator. The read-type indicator can allow for exchange of a large amount of data between the host and the storage system using a single read command.

Claims (40)

1 . A system comprising:

a memory device; and

a host device configured to:

send, to the memory device, a read command comprising:

a location identifier for retrieving read data from the memory device; and

an indication indicating a read-type of the read command;

send, to the memory device, a parameter list comprising one or more location identifiers for retrieving additional read data from the memory device; and

in response to the indication being a certain value, receive, from the memory device, the read data and the additional read data retrieved using the location identifier and the one or more location identifiers.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the location identifier comprises a logical block address of the read data.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the location identifier comprises a physical address of the read data on the memory device.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprises a physical address of the additional read data on the memory device.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprise at least two non-contiguous addresses.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the host device is configured to receive the read data and the additional read data without sending any additional read command to the memory device.

7 . The system of claim 1 , in response to the indication being another value different from the certain value, the host device is configured to receive, from the memory device, the read data retrieved using the location identifier.

8 . A controller of a host device, the controller is configured to perform operations comprising:

sending, to a memory device, a read command comprising:

a location identifier for retrieving read data from the memory device; and

an indication indicating a read-type of the read command;

sending, to the memory device, a parameter list comprising one or more location identifiers for retrieving additional read data from the memory device; and

in response to the indication being a certain value, receiving, from the memory device, the read data and the additional read data retrieved using the location identifier and the one or more location identifiers.

9 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the location identifier comprises a logical block address of the read data.

10 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the location identifier comprises a physical address of the read data on the memory device.

11 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprises a physical address of the additional read data on the memory device.

12 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprise at least two non-contiguous addresses.

13 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving the read data and the additional read data without sending any additional read command to the memory device.

14 . The controller of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:

in response to the indication being another value different from the certain value, receiving, from the memory device, the read data retrieved using the location identifier.

15 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, storing instructions, which when executed by a host device, causes the host device to perform operations comprising:

sending, to a memory device, a read command comprising:

a location identifier for retrieving read data from the memory device; and

an indication indicating a read-type of the read command;

sending, to the memory device, a parameter list comprising one or more location identifiers for retrieving additional read data from the memory device; and

in response to the indication being a certain value, receiving, from the memory device, the read data and the additional read data retrieved using the location identifier and the one or more location identifiers.

16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the location identifier comprises a logical block address of the read data.

17 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the location identifier comprises a physical address of the read data on the memory device.

18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprises a physical address of the additional read data on the memory device.

19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the one or more location identifiers comprise at least two non-contiguous addresses.

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving the read data and the additional read data without sending any additional read command to the memory device.
